You’ll also note that the OP posted anonymously, so they were not in any sense exposed.

I do think there are too many people taking offence on behalf of others these days.

I’m currently pregnant and I emailed both the partners to inform them, I always find having things in writing incase anything happens is better than verbal.
I told them when I was 6 weeks as I needed to make sure I was protecting myself and the baby. I’m now 6 months. I told immediate staff around me so I didn’t seem awkward if I couldn’t do something. Everyone was very supportive and happy for me.

As long as this isn't the case, just ask for a quick word. Either find them alone, or schedule something. In our practice we commonly communicate via messages too, so if you think that's easier - do it. As a boss I'd be perfectly happy with that. If you think it's easier to get the news over and then have a chat moving forwards. No need to make it into a big thing - it's inevitable with a workforce comprising mainly reproductive age ladies.
