A few of weeks ago I was at work and ended up hurting my back resulting in a bulging disc. I have since been on light duties. However today I tried to lift a dog onto the table (5kg JRT) and I’ve been in agony since. I don’t think I’m going

RE: Issues with working with bad back

I had an L4/L5 injury about 17yrs ago just one single event did it for me

- had always been very very careful about safe lifting etc. Saw a sports therapist/osteopath/acupuncturist. used a support for a little while (which as an added bonus will give you an absolute killer figure ) and then once things had settled down a bit started doing a few exercises to strengthen muscles. Swimming is good, It can take a while to settle - was I think 18 weeks in my case - but I dont think I took more than a week off? the one thing I will say is don't be tempted to stay in bed, keep moving but dont over do it. These days I struggle a bit bending down to lift an animal but thats down more to a knackered hip than a knackered back. Dont give up on your back just yet - its early days

RE: Issues with working with bad back

i had 3 months off with a slipped disc, i now am very strict with what size dogs i lift and always correct technique. i would think nothing of lifting 25-30 kg dogs on my own. most of us at work are in our 40's and 50s with shitty backs! we also have an osteopath that works on site... very useful!
