And its not just about the prizes, it's potentially a great way to show off your personal skills (ie for your CV) and also to showcase the things VNs can do.

So what kind of things do YOU think it would be good to demonstrate, and does anyone need any help or advice making their film. I am here to help.

RE: Anyone want to be a movie star?
I think so. I have no qualms about filming or being in front of the camera. Just check out what I do with my Scouts
I had to look around for one where you are talking! Found it, and I think you come across well. Good delivery.

The format we are working on is:

a) Very short intro from me saying who it is, and to give the viewer reassurance that the content has been reviewed.

b) Title screen

c) Ideally, a very, very short intro from the person demonstrating. Not much more than a wave to the camera and 'Hi, I am Ben'

d) Procedure / demo filmed close up in LANDSCAPE format. Needs a student or trainee to hold camera nice and still. Ideally with person doing demonstration wearing a lavalier microphone. But even they can sound a bit muffled through a mask, and the alternative is to film a voiceover after.

e) Share footage / voiceover with me via wetransfer, or dropbox. I edit clips into one movie, upload to YouTube and share with members of VS and VN, and other social networks.

These videos will potentially serve three purposes:

a) Help newbies to the profession

b) Show what nurses CAN do!

c) Career advancement for the person in the film ... shows capabilities to future employers.

Ben Ogden - I have a co-editor, a vet, working with me on this, so yes, all content that makes it to publication will have been checked beforehand.

If you (or anyone else) would like to make one, best PM me first with the idea of what you'd like to demo. I will run it past my coeditor and see whether he has any comments to make (ie things he thinks a demo should include or avoid).

RE: Anyone want to be a movie star?

I think so.

HOWEVER, I wouldn't consider myself at the forfront of advancements in Veterinary Nursing. Someone who IS, casting an eye on content would go a long way on quality control. (although I do feel I could justify all techniques )

RE: Anyone want to be a movie star?
North East... I'm out
Not necessarily!

The other thing we are doing is inviting nurses who know how to do something to get a colleague to hold a mobile phone and film them doing it. Only thing is that sound is generally bad on mobiles, so I am prepared to fund a lavalier microphone (one you clip to your chest) so you can talk the viewer through what you are doing.

So, Ben Ogden, is there something you can think of which you could demonstrate for the benefit of everyone in the profession?

The idea is that it will go in a big youtube library and we'll share it across all social media platforms etc. And it can be branded if you want to promote something.

RE: Anyone want to be a movie star?

North East...
