Loads of times i feel so sleepy and unmotivated in general, but blood tests from doctors have shown nothing medically wrong with me. What do you use to get you through the day? Caffeine just makes me jumpy and tense

Re: Energy fix...so sleepy

Love sweet spuds and nanas so they would do but why oh why do all boring foods have to be good and exciting foods bad

Re: Energy fix...so sleepy

Hmm will try the drink loads of water thing, thanks Miss Dot Dot. Also thanks STRVN for the biology lesson.I have read that cooked potatoes have very high GI's and therefore release sugar into the blood a lot more quickly than wholemeal toast etc. Good luck to your daughter with passing her exam.

Re: Energy fix...so sleepy

Protein bars from health food shops.
Don't think bananas and sweet potatoes are slow release carbs hun. Bananas are full of fructose and whatever starch is in potatoes turns into simple sugars when you cook them. Both have high GI's. I might try a big bowl of wholemeal Muesli or somethin tho, so thanks for the idea Nick.

Potatoes are carbs, but they are a slow release as carbs broken down to simplest form are sugars(maltose glucose) so potatoes are slow release

Bananas as far as I am aware are sugars in a simpler form and have loads of pottasium , so a quicker release of sugar from them.( Tennis players eat these in breaks) lol

Glucose-maltose-starch (in plants)(glycogen-in humans) cellulose(complex carbs) sorry I am being a bit of a geek here but I have just covered all this with daughter number 2 for her Biology.

Re: Energy fix...so sleepy

Make sure you drink plenty of water!!! This can make a HUGE difference to your energy levels... I didn't realise how much till I started drinking alot more thru out the day... try to have at least 1.5 to 2 litres a day plus what you normally have... it's quite hard at first and plenty of trips to the loo but you feel loads better. Plus a good balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and veg and cut out caffeine, tea, diet coke and fizzy drinks, as little alcohol as possible, cut out chocolate and as much sugar as possible... difficult at first and can take a few days to get use to but I found I ended up sleeping alot better thru out the night which also helped with energy levels thru out the day

Re: Energy fix...so sleepy

Don't think bananas and sweet potatoes are slow release carbs hun. You can always ask your Dr to refer you to a dietian or alternatively go to health food shop for advise
