I'm perfectly happy booking in spays and routine ops (see RCVS flowchart)

[the government said vet practices to stay open and placed no restriction on the work we can do. It's not our place to decide what is essential travel - you could go to the shop for a bar of chocolate, the off licence for wine, or the pet shop for some dog chews as 'essential' journeys. Rules have changed and we can now go for a day out to the seaside. The announcement on Sunday said if your work place is open you should go in - basically the end of furlough in vet practice. The move is back to normal work. Do your neutering. Don't feel guilty]

can someone enlighten me? my boss has started doing bitch spays, says we need to make money so he is allowing spays and castrates to be done, we thought the rules were only if essential!! were saying no to cats, unless different sex in same house but now we are booking bitch spays in that are just routine, no logical reason to do now etc, we are getting confused and is starting to cause friction among staff, are we allowed to do this ??

[/quote]

it might be essential to the practice to bring in some revenue to pay its employees, there is only so long a practice can survive without work and income. Would people be happier safety wise with a 101 people traipsing in for flea and wormer or the income from a couple of people bringing in bitches to be spayed? I know which I would rather have. Or maybe some people would be happier sacrificing a few staff instead?

I know these aren't normal times but somehow things are going to have to start very gradually coming back to a new normal
