As we are all aware getting hold of certain stock items at the moment is a nightmare...
Our main supplier is Covectrus, NVS wont sell us any low stock items at present as they are understandably putting their clients needs first.

But a lot of Covectrus out of stock items arent likely to be till early april if we're lucky.

We've already cancelled/not booking any more routine ops in to not only minimise clients coming in to the practice but also as we dont know what stock we can get hold of.

This is such a worrying and uncertain time, i dont like it. And im not normally a worrier

RE: Ordering in current Covid-19 climate

I couldn't get any hand gel anywhere and as a substitute have made up some hibitane in alcohol and stuck that in a spray bottle - I know its not the same but better than nothing. I keep a list of alternatives for as many products as I can and as it becomes unavailable I move down the list. When licensed products are all out of stock I look for generics. i'm not hoarding, most things are at normal levels. Covetrus had a large list of out of stock items and high prices before all this started I don't see it getting any better. We had quite a few clients wanting to stock up on meds yesterday - depending on how supplies come in may have to limit some of those so everybody has a chance. The one i am worried about at the minute is if insulin supply goes down as we have reasonable number of diabetics

RE: Ordering in current Covid-19 climate

I don't know what to do for the best. Clients are trying to stock up. Various drugs and supplies are out of stock or severely rationed. I'm trying not to join the bandwagon and deprive everyone else, but other people then get the stock and I'm left without.

Practically I am holding increased stock of some more essential items (2 weeks supply, rather than 2 days) to allow for issues with the supply chain. On the whole I am trying to maintain most things in normal quantities. I should be ok for the next month/6 weeks for surgical scrub etc. Glad I have O2 concentrators. I have some alcohol hand gel, but I don't know how long it will last.

As a mixed practice we are in our busiest period in terms of surgery and drugs (especially on the large animal side with lambing and calving). So frustrating.
