OH MY GOD. That is weird. That doesn't sound like a possibly excusable normal client asking if they could record the appt so they have a record of what was said or advised. It sounds more like a total fruitcake. Possibly (and I don't want to frighten you, but the thought crosses my mind) a dangerous one.

If it were me (and I am a bloke that owns his own business, so I am not in your shoes), I think I would have demanded that he delete the film from his phone immediately.

On the broader question of filming, though, I think some practices are are starting to instal cameras in consult rooms in order to cover their backsides and protect against malicious accusations. That seems a good idea to me. And if you had a camera installed, you could turn to any client who started filming and say ... sorry we don't allow that, but we are filming and if you would like a copy, we can give it to you afterwards for £5.

RE: Clients filming consults

I have asked somebody to stop before as they didn't have my permission to film. When they didn't I left the room and vet went in. When they still carried on filming they were asked to leave (dog nail clip). In my case wasn't that sure they were filming what was going on so much as casing the joint for a return visit ooh. I suppose you could always call their bluff and ask a colleague in to film them

RE: Clients filming consults

Thanks, had a client in today with his cat for flea and worming treatment he came in sat down and was playing on his phone I got the cat out and started asking the usual questions he wasn't listening at all I ask him to put a hand on his cat whilst I popped out to get the flea and worming treatment when I returned the cat was walking around the the consult room and owner was sat back down now filming the cat, I picked the cat up and placed on the table to apply treatment he then stood up and had his phone right in my face not focusing on his cat I politely asked if he was filming me and he replied "yes why" I said I'd prefer you didn't he sat back down and carried on I then asked our VS to come in to hold the cat whilst I tabletted him as owner was sat down still filming on his phone he just made me feel very uneasy I'm a 20yr experience nurse and never encountered such a ignorant client and that situation

RE: Clients filming consults

Never experienced it. No specific policy. Undecided how I feel, I guess if you have nothing to hide, then why not? Could even be useful if they watched it back to check details. Filming secretly would be an invasion of privacy.

What is the background to this? With phone cameras, Snapchat etc I suspect it's happened a lot that we don't know about. If someone answers the phone then I generally just leave the room. Have done that a couple of times
