Do sleeping shifts still happen in veterinary practice? I used to do them years ago, and was paid nothing for them. For my 40 daytime hours, I was on exactly minimum wage to the decimal (less than that until I found the guts to point it out). I always found it staggering how much more was charged for OOH work, and never did find out where that extra money was going. Were the vets getting paid huge OOH bonuses? Or was the boss paying himself for the hard work of sleeping soundly at home? I've always been resentful of this, and it's why I'll be very hard pressed to ever work somewhere with its own OOH again.
