They had a piece about a vet practice in England, who had a cat, which had a hip operation and the nurse decided to take the cat home for the weekend. Long & short of it - she kept said

Re: Jeremy Vine Show - Radio 2, 18.06.09

yes I agree Saskia - was afraid to post this but yes i have taken cats home over the weekend and I have kept them in a secure stable. Admittedly it was a long time ago but let me explain. The cats I took in over the weekend were both farm cats and not used to be handled that much - one had an eye enucleation on a Friday afternoon, was doing wall of death inside a hospital kennel and actually broke a tooth trying to bite its way out. I was asked by my vet to take this one home and keep a check on it over the weekend as a) it would probably settle better if it wasnt cooped up and the stable environment was probably more like home to it. b) there would be nobody in the practice on the Sunday. (this was long before the advent of vetsnow)

the second cat had a broken pelvis after being clipped by a car - again hospitalisation in a conventional hospital cage wasnt doing this cat any good. It stayed with me for 6 weeks until it was sufficiently fit to go back to its own farm and fend for itself and not get beaten up by the other cats

Is it possible that something along these lines happened and unfortunately the cat escaped. Sometimes it is easy to judge when the full story isnt known

Re: Jeremy Vine Show - Radio 2, 18.06.09

We shouldnt make any assumptions about the nurse concerned as we dont know the full story.

My guess is she is feeling absolutely terrible about the whole thing

Re: Jeremy Vine Show - Radio 2, 18.06.09

[quote user="Bouncyfi"]

I wonder if thats something that would be a disciplinary case? As if she doesn't feel bad enough, I suppose!

A nurse I worked with took a recovering staffie outside for toilets and he slipped his lead, we looked for him all day and caught him eventually. That was bad enough. But keeping the cat in a shed? It would have been better off staying at the practice, surely? Suppose its difficult to judge when we havn't heard the full story.

Re: Jeremy Vine Show - Radio 2, 18.06.09

Im gobsmacked!

Re: Jeremy Vine Show - Radio 2, 18.06.09

Oh my god Thats awful! I would be horrified. If you are taking something home to care for it why keep it outside in the shed?!

I brought a pug puppy home one weekend as it needed hourly eye drops, I was terrified of something heppening to it.
