One of the things that has put me off losing weight in the past is the length of time it takes to see a result.
But then I read in the Times yesterday some professor saying that the beat diabetes diet involves

RE: Something for anyone who struggles to lose weight
Tbh I don't think i could psychologically cope with eating less than half of my daily calorie requirement, so bravo Arlo!
Well, it's day 3 and so far, I haven't felt that ravenous that I feel like going and gunning down the queue in the local MacDonalds!
It's like drinking porridge which is not the most pleasant sometimes,
Yes, they've all got a bit of an 'oaty' taste, which actually I rather like. I think I can taste a bit of artificial sweetener, but the artificiallyness (you know, like you get in a can of coca cola lite), is quite subtle.

So far, I've tried vanilla (favourite), coffee (a close second) and chocolate (not nice on first attempt, but could be an acquired taste, so persevering).
it's nice to know I'll actually get some nutrition on top of that
Yes, it's reassuring to know that this stuff contains everything you need.

I'm thinking that once the 8 weeks is up, I'll probably keep going with this stuff as a breakfast or lunch replacement. Good for the planet (less farting cows, and so far at least, I don't seem adding to the methane emissions).

RE: Something for anyone who struggles to lose weight

Tbh I don't think i could psychologically cope with eating less than half of my daily calorie requirement, so bravo Arlo! Food and diets is such a complex issue, it would be fascinating to shadow a human nutritionist for a week (but I am massive nutrition nerd so maybe that's just me!)

On Huel, I love it. It's like drinking porridge which is not the most pleasant sometimes, but I find it really handy to have in the staff room for those days you don't get lunch. I'll definitely still eat the chocolate too, but it's nice to know I'll actually get some nutrition on top of that

RE: Something for anyone who struggles to lose weight
wish you well with the liquid diet - I admit I couldn't do it
Well, first impressions were very much better than I expected!

www.youtube.com/watch

RE: Something for anyone who struggles to lose weight

wish you well with the liquid diet - I admit I couldn't do it, but you may have more staying power than me. Out of all the diets I have tried in a dieting lifetime the ones with the best results for me was the 555Nasa ( used by astronauts basically take a week off work and do 555cals per day, rapid weight loss and also rapid decline in patience hence the week off in case you accidentally kill the person annoying you) followed by good old Slimming World. Or the other was just to eat allocated rations as per WW2, ie rapid weight loss which is low fat but suited me because of the relatively high carb count. Can't really get on with keto in whatever guise I like the carbs too much but a friend (?) bought me the Pinch of Nom book for Christmas and I am currently planning from that

But the most important thing for me in any diet is not what you eat or drink but to have the support of at least one important person around you

RE: Something for anyone who struggles to lose weight

Arlo Guthrie

I am sorry to hear about your pre-diabetes Arlo, yes, a weightloss will help you to pull back from that... wish you well, mate.

Still... Dust scoffing is way beyond my own food aspirations irrespective of results!

Get better soon!!

RE: Something for anyone who struggles to lose weight
If you have a proper medical need to eat this sort of stuff, fair do... But
I suppose it depends on what you call a medical need, but a BMI of 29 and pre-diabetic in early 50s I think qualifies as a medical need.
What's wrong with real food?
The big difference between real food and this, er, stuff, is that you know how many calories are going in.

With real food, I cut out the bad things, then I try and eat less, but still hungry, so I think ... one more stalk head bag hundredweight of broccoli isn't going to do anyone any harm. This way, I know I need to eat 800 calories in a day (for 8 weeks), and I know when I have eaten them.

Anyway, we'll see. It's going to be an interesting experiment - is this stuff going to be too revolting for words. And if bearable, then will it work ... Stay tuned.

RE: Something for anyone who struggles to lose weight

Oh dear... I don't fancy your task on this road test one bit. If you have a proper medical need to eat this sort of stuff, fair do... But

The only time you could persuade me to ingest it would be if I was in space. #formashgetsmash (you'll get the reference Arlo, not sure the younger tribes will!).

What's wrong with real food? Just eat blimmin less of it. Or more brassicas. This to bulk up your stomach (fill you up) and with the same duvet lifting effects from the dust you'll be reviewing!

Good luck mate. This is defo one product review I know for sure won't change my shopping habits!!

Grow it. Eat it. Get exercise planting and nurturing more.
