Unprofessional if seen by public

Dangly item an animal could eat (same reason as jewellery restrictions)

Need to focus on task for professional and safety reasons.

Could not be seen to have fully mitigated the risk on an R/A

Of course you run the risk of them then just listening to whatever it was on loudspeaker, like toddlers on aeroplanes.

Our receptionist and ACA will certainly sit in the office/prep getting on with shredding etc with their own music on. As long as it's done sensibly and you can hear a shout and the phone ring, it's not something that bothers me.

RE: Nurse wearing EarPods at work

[quote user="Selena "]

so which bit was the CPD was it listening to whatever or the chatting to others. I wouldn't have thought both were possible at the same time? Hope she didn't log time for this. Irrelevant anyway I'm another old fart - no to ear pods. If this is allowed whilst she is on probation things will only get worse

RE: Nurse wearing EarPods at work

they were looking at job to do within the practice, not looking for vet jobs on indeed lol

RE: Nurse wearing EarPods at work

IMO defo not acceptable regardless of what they are listening to. From a h&s pov this is not a good idea. Just having one ear bud in still carries a h&s risk plus how can you be fully taking in your cpd if you're doing something else at the same time. Surely cpd should be done when you can dedicate 100% of your attention to it

RE: Nurse wearing EarPods at work

My opinion for what it's worth is that one nurse listening to a CPD podcast whilst cleaning is OK - IF that is definitely what they were doing and IF there were plenty of other nurses around. To be doing so though would be something that had to be given permission for on an individual basis. The hope would be to culture enough trust that it could be done sensibly.

Looking for other jobs whilst at work, definitely not OK and they need to be pulled up on that, and concerns re. high iso need addressing too x

RE: Nurse wearing EarPods at work

I disagree with this from a professional and health and safety point of view even if they are listening to CPD. This nurse could easily not hear patients barking, phones ringing, vets and nurses trying to ask for help etc (and worse case scenario the fire alarm, especially if lone working or in isolation for example). You would never walk into a human hospital or doctors, dentist etc. and see staff wearing head phones regardless of whether they are on the front desk or in the back. I may sound mean but I would not like to see any of my colleagues wearing head phones whilst working as it is also anti-social (even if it is CPD they are listening to). I would certainly mention this during their review as you were worried enough to bring it up in this forum.

I hope this helps
