Behind the scenes, I think the techies have just finished the final part of upgrading the forums onto our new platform. That was the thing that took the most amount of time and effort to get done, and I am now testing it.

Then we just have to tweak the design and layout of the jobs, news and gallery sections, and then we're off to the races. These last sections are much more straightforward, so we should be ready quite soon. I hope in the next two to three weeks.

Exciting!

Great - looks good. But you will also need to set your account to display your real name - under 'My account > Account Settings" The click the 'Post Options' tab, and then make sure under 'enable display name', the first tick box is ticked.

Wow ... FANTASTIC - thanks everyone. This is great, we've got the start of a good team starting here.

Ben Ogden - no, there isn't an opportunity to split by species, but I don't think that will be any problem. You can just tuck into those questions/discussions that are relevant to you.

Anne Watkins - wildlife would need to slot under exotics, I think. Would that be OK?

One thing ... as I said earlier, all experts will need to display their real names and complete their VetNurse profiles to include professionally relevant information, so that readers can see the depth and breadth of your experience.

I'm getting excited about this ... it's all starting to come to life!

I'm happy to volunteer for wildlife expert - have treated and rehabilitated young and sick small mammals and birds for 12 years + and did two years volunteering at a wildlife hosp before qualifying :) Only qualified 4 years but been in practice for 13 years so feel have a lot of experience! Have a C&G certificate in Vet Nursing of Exotic Species

Hey

I'll volunteer for the exotics as I already give people exotic advice all over the world and host my own social media pages called Scales, Feathers and Tails. I am currently in practice and teach my colleagues on a daily basis on exotics and their care but also give them extra cpd in the way of presentations and practicals. I am also already studying and nearly finished my certificate in veterinary nursing of exotic species. :)

Hi Nick, This is really an extension of what I started earlier, and you’re already in!!

To expand on that ... I'm rolling out a similar idea on VetSurgeon.org. Originally on both sites I planned to hand pick a number of experts. But as the idea developed, it became clear that we need more experts than that, for each discipline/area of interest, to ensure that 'questioners' get a reasonably prompt response.

Thankfully the technology has come along somewhat, and I can automate who becomes an expert. On VetSurgeon, I am making all referral practitioners 'Experts'.

On VetNurse, there aren't referral practitioners as such, so I am thinking about allowing all members registered as 'Teacher/Academia' to be experts automatically, then others who volunteer/stick their hand up etc.

This is all partly driven by the need for VetNurse to provide something different to Facebook, and also because of my personal passion for transparency over the provenance of information, something which Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the Internet, was talking about only the other night. On facebook, even in groups, you usually have absolutely no information about the person sharing information or advising.

Here, by contrast, all experts will need to complete their profiles, so the person asking the question can put their advice into context.

In your case, that will allow people to see how highly qualified and experienced you are! That's really important, I think.

I’m happy to put myself forward as imaging ‘expert’ I’ve been nursing for 22 years as well as spending time working for the NHS working in radiology department. in my current role I undertake both CT & MRI scanning of dogs and cats for a variety of conditions. I’m always looking to learn more and happy to share my knowledge in the area of imaging. Hoping that the RCVS bring out an imaging advanced certificate in the future, which I’d be interested in studying for. I’m beginning to waffle and this is starting to sound like a personal statement
