I've just found out I'm pregnant with my 2nd child. I suffered with work related anxiety during my first as I was so worried I was going to cause my baby harm at work due to all the health and safety issues. I put this down to the fact it took

RE: Pregnancy and anxiety

Please don't be embarassed about how you feel. It's normal (to a degree and if the anxiety is getting excessive, talk to your doctor- I suffer from anxiety as well, well controlled with meds, so I do understand). Just because others don't say they feel that way (and that's not to say they don't, maybe they felt the same way but just 'soldiered on' too!!) doesn't mean you have to follow suit!

RE: Pregnancy and anxiety

No i hate letting people down. It's just not in me. I also hate asking other people to do things (whether I'm pregnant or not ).

I didn't speak to them in my last pregnancy about all my anxieties apart from the anaesthetics because I spose I am embarrassed by it. Especially when other nurses just 'get on with it!' hence why I'm like im not sure i can do it all again.

I took mat leave early last time so will do the same this time and Ill speak to my midwife about it and see what she says. Thank you x

RE: Pregnancy and anxiety

Do you have an HR manager? Ultimately they need to do a H&S assessment and its up to you (within reason) to decide what you feel comfortable with and they cannot force you to do anything you are not comfortable with (and would be stupid to do so). Ultimately, if this is stressing you out, you need to talk to them and also to your doctor/midwife- being pregnant can be stressful enough on its own, so you need to focus on minimising the stress. If this means having some leave or taking maternity leave early, you should consider it. The fact that they are short staffed is not your problem, although it does suggest you are conscientious and I am sure you don't want to let anyone down, but you and your baby are the most important things to consider.
