Whilst Arlo has done a good job with the site here, we've always had good success using our Facebook page when looking for student nurses. I think I'd initially try that even for an RVN.
Boss put on our FB page that we were looking for a nurse and one of the clients posted underneath 'is S leaving?' followed by a phone call to work asking to speak to me to say please don't leave .(Winston her dog was one of my favorites -a Newfie, a biscuit monster and desperately trying to be a lap dog, he was one of those characters you remember for years afterwards). Followed by an approach from a nurse at a neighbouring practice asking if I was looking for work! it was like Chinese Whispers

RE: Where to look?
I hope I fall into 'geographically challenged' as to why VS.org site didn't find me a vet, rather than the other category!
Well, I think the reality is that amongst vets, there is much more of a supply and demand problem than there is amongst student veterinary nurses.

My objective is for everyone on both sites to get a result. But of course I can't do anything about supply and demand, nor if the advert says OOH required and salary is £5 per week, nor if the practice is situated on the Isle of Mull (I am not saying your ad was any of these things, any more than I was accusing you of being Attila the Hun ).

All of these things can be a factor wherever you advertise ... I have heard of people spending a great deal more and not have a result with other veterinary titles too.
I never put the student nurse vacancy on your site but we had 12 serious applications and a number of other enquiries from the FB page.

(we have just over 900 people who like the page and over 2000 saw the advert).
Well, I think one needs to take the 'saw' figure with a pinch of salt as it means it appeared on the screen, not that it was actually 'seen' or read.

That said, 900 is lot of people who liked the page, and 2000 is a lot of 'saw', despite the inadequacies of the metric.

And 12 enquiries? That seems like a particularly good result for a post on Facebook.

RE: Where to look?
(despite all my best efforts, some practices - particularly in 'geographically challenged' areas, or which are known to be run by Attila the Hun, are always going to struggle!)
Bloody Facebook Hate the way it sucks money out of the veterinary profession (and others) and puts it in Zuckerberg's wallet!

That said ...

I think it is worth remembering that it is (of course) a numbers game. Put something on your Facebook page, and you are going to be seen by those who follow your page, and anyone they share it with. In some cases (perhaps most), that number will be quite small. And in every case you are limiting yourself to those who use facebook. You might get lucky, in which case well done. Or you might not.

Post on VetNurse, by contrast, and we push the advert out well beyond Facebook. We're optimised for Google for Jobs (Google's dedicated job search tool), and also feed to followers on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and to normal google search results and to subscribers. Plus we have built in tools to help optimise the advert - including prompts to display salary, photographs, logos, map and 'share and reward' (which anecdotally, works well).

The whole ethos of VetNurse and VetSurgeon has been to support the profession, since I set the sites up, the first back in 2000. That remains the case, which is why I set the price as low as I thought I possibly could - £99 +VAT for two months (other sites tend to offer 30 days, which means the real comparison is £50 per advert).

I feel like our system adds the £99 worth of value. But I also appreciate that whether you agree with me depends on whether you are one of those which got a great result quickly, or one who didn't (despite all my best efforts, some practices - particularly in 'geographically challenged' areas, or which are known to be run by Attila the Hun, are always going to struggle!).

RE: Where to look?

Definitely VetNurse.co.uk but also practice's own website/Facebook page if I was looking at a specific practice. There's also a Facebook page that will share all veterinary jobs in Scotland called 'Scottish Veterinary Jobs Alert' which I keep an eye on - there may be something similar in your area? Definitely agree with previous comment that an advertised salary range is most appreciated.

RE: Where to look?

Whilst Arlo has done a good job with the site here, we've always had good success using our Facebook page when looking for student nurses.
I don't see in most cases the salaries on offer would justify moving half way across the country for the perfect job, so more likely to recruit from your immediate area.

RE: Where to look?

I have a look on here to see whats on offer , or let a few of my friends know I have itchy feet - you might be surprised what comes up that way as so many places are on the look out, including us.
There is only one place to look, surely, and it's here We've certainly got the best selection of jobs. As far as I know, we're the cheapest of the main players (by quite some margin, as it was always my aim to support practices). I'd argue we also have the best presentation, though how important that is may be open to debate.

I think worth noting, though, that we have also optimised our system to feed jobs to Google For Jobs (Google's relatively new bespoke job search tool), and we advertise on Google, and we also feed out to other social networks, and to subscribers ...

So posting on VetNurse is not just about appearing on the website, it's the other stuff we do behind the scenes to get the advert seen elsewhere by the largest number of people.

One thing I just noticed about your advert, SharonSP, is that there's no salary displayed. There's a reasonable amount of evidence that adverts which display a salary on offer, or at least an indication, perform better than those that don't.
