Agree that *cleaning* the floor with a product such as Flash works exceedingly well and provides a better surface to disinfect with e.g. anigene or similar afterwards.

I have worked at several practices where the floor was very regularly mopped with a disinfectant such as anigene but at the edges/corners/by furniture edges had ingrained dirt. A liberal dose of elbow grease with a scrubbing brush and a product such as Flash or washing up liquid and bleach mixture and Bingo! Then mopping afterwards with a floor disinfectant was effective in keeping those areas nip n tidy clean.

IMO elbow grease works wonders

Flash seems to have a much better detergent coverage than Anistel/Anigene and is better at shifting dirt visible dirt. I can identify with this I like to ring the changes a bit rather than relying on just one product.

Oooo, good to know, thank you guys! We definitely have the problem with our skirting boards getting that ingrained dirt that just looks horrendous. Scrubbing with anistel definitely works for a few days, but maybe adding in a flash mop will help keep the necessary scrubbing to a minimum! I'm definitely not allergic to elbow grease, but I don't want to be hastening knee issues if I can help it

*Edit* Y'all might have just did something with the flash recommendation, idk why I've never thought of it before

RE: Floor disinfectant

Elbow grease is so underrated & seems to have gone out of fashion!!

RE: Floor disinfectant

Agree that *cleaning* the floor with a product such as Flash works exceedingly well and provides a better surface to disinfect with e.g. anigene or similar afterwards.

I will still use bleach on occasions - ie if the kennels are completely empty and its the end of the week as I like to ring the changes every so often. The problem I find with bleach is it doesn't really give good coverage on vinyl floors it isn't a detergent - the floor has to be 'clean' before you use bleach if that makes sense.

RE: Floor disinfectant

Many thanks for your informative reply.
So, pick up a swab test kit and take it from there.

If you order a kit it will contain swabs etc and a list of suggested areas to test from theatre to prep, kennels consulting rooms, waiting rooms, reception and staff areas. Taps, door handles, keyboards, light switches, trollies, machinery, toilet... You name it!

Whether people don't really care about the subject or CBA talking about it?

The question I think you are asking is how is best to clean and sanitise floors? If so I really don't think the answer is a single product or s single step.

You could use bleach but it's inactivated by contamination so the surface would need to be spotless first. It also requires long contact times, gives off nasty fumes and is not great if splashed on uniform etc. We use it occasionally as a stain remover or in the toilets.

Most of the time we just use a scrubber drier with a suitable chemical for the machine. It cleans and sanitises but is not a specific veterinary disinfectant. Your options are to mop with something afterwards or sometimes put that solution through the machine (if compatible). When we used to mop we would use flash or similar one end of the day and Anigene or similar the other end. Make sure things are made up following the manufacturers instructions as too much chemical makes the floor sticky and more dirty. Hot water can give off fumes etc.

What are you doing now? Why do you want to change that?
