Just seen this. If any one is genuinely interested in recycling as much as possible - you should take a look at the Teracycle web site, they are trying to get everyone to take part in their schemes.It is a brilliant site doing some really useful stuff.

as of friday just gone - hand soap at work (just general hand soap not surgical scrub) now comes in a 5 litre container and the smaller bottles will be refilled from that - ditto washing up liquid. Ok its not a lot but we must get through at least 4 bottles of wash up liquid a month and 5-6 bottles of hand wash so over the course of a year I reckon that is around 120 bottles not going to landfill or needing recycling. As joke I looked up IZAL loo roll - and thankfully they don't make it anymore HOWEVER I can source about 1000 rolls at a knockdown price should anybody be interested .

Now if they do swap from plastic to starch based cover for the vet times to make it more environmentally friendly perhaps they would also consider taking it a step further and use a softer non glossy paper and print pages in useable sizes - that way I could punch a hole in one corner and suspend it in the loo - obviously being mindful to remove staples . Dual use - you could claim Cpd while visiting the ablutions.

We do other things too ie all our clinical waste is incinerated yellow bags only- and has been for the last 10 years - and I know that might seem odd to some of you but at least it is dealt with in this country rather than dumping it on somebody else. China and India have quite rightly said no more thanks you keep it.

if everybody did their own little bit and went back to a simpler way of life I think it could make a difference to everybody. A big one would be if people stopped being so wasteful of resources

Not reproducing, being vegan, avoid buying plastic bottles and no more plane travel.

We recycle and try to grow as much veg as possible. My husband tries to buy only local sourced products and things that are in season.

Personal opinion - I think it's too late.....

Fortunately for everybody else - no - but I have learnt to land a chipmunk from either front or back seat in case of emergency, never really a solo effort - it was just the allusion that I was, always somebody either back or front to recover it if I mucked it up- bounced a bit the first time but it survived and so did we - second time was better. Third time from front seat 'wasn't bad for a penguin' according to the real pilot seriously tho I don't think our 22gallons of avgas on high days and holidays are so much of a threat ,its not like we dump fuel because lets face it we don't have the capacity to carry spare and I can probably compensate because I don't have a car. We all have to have at least one vice - its what makes life worth living. But will try harder to make up for it somehow

As someone who used to start the day with sausages and bacon, move on to a big mac, and finish with a lamb chop, I think I'd struggle to go vegan. But when you look at the carbon cost of a chicken, or a fish vs a cow, the savings are MASSSSIVE, so I think moving to meat once or twice a week (sometimes chicken), is the quick easy win.

I sponsor companies which convert plastic waste into building bricks both uk and in developing countries, I use public transport or Shank's pony or cycle (I don't own a car), I eat locally produced and seasonal food/game wherever possible,I use no pesticides except the cats flea tx- but have to admit that sadly the wasps nest last year did have to go as we couldn't peaceably co -habit . I use very little in the way of aerosols and I don't use plug in air fresheners anymore (look it up) I support local freely given sites which mean I am not sending useable goods to landfill. I use my paper waste to make paper logs. I batch cook a lot which saves electricity. I recycle or repurpose wherever possible. I don't use gas (admittedly we aren't on mains gas in the village and this helped me make this choice). I have a compost heap/wormery and do manage to grow a few things to eat in amongst the jungle/garden. I am a member of a 'thrifty fifties' group which sadly for some of you means I may well survive Brexit or a zombie apocalypse. I don't drink or smoke and rarely see a Dr (last year was a bad year but this year looking better). I don't holiday abroad - so I don't add to air pollution that way. Not of an age to need them now but I am a member of a group that makes and distributes re- useable sanitary wear and childrens nappies.

On the downside. I have a coal fire - but eke out the coal by using paper logs or recycled wood, I don't use eco electric (this is a conscious choice until the companies flogging it realise that wind turbines are not the only way forward - I find them all pretty disingenuous), I stopped being veggie in 2005 - it wasn't a healthy lifestyle for me, and probably my biggest sin is my support and use of vintage aircraft but I figure they aren't exactly 737's so they are doing a lot less damage to the environment/people. I don't have a bee hive anymore - wish I did but for now will have to settle with the burrowing bees in the garden

Always looking for ways to improve.

The biggest PITA for me at the moment is cat food pouches - non recycleable and the bloody things won't burn - the company that comes up with something better than we have now will get my vote

Just to make you smile - we had a lady join our thrifty fifties group. This was her main concern - 'what am I going to do post Brexit I can only drink Evian and what if you can't get it anymore?' witty reply from another member - we have it on tap in our house, bring a bottle I will see you right

Was veggie since 2002 up until last year when I ditched dairy and eggs now been vegan for the last 8 months. The meat and dairy industry have a bigger impact on the environment than transportation.

Trying to reduce the amount of plastics I use in my house household and buy recyclable where possible

in practice we have plastic and cardboard recycling bin dotted all over the practice so these help with recycling.

Limit the amount of printing I do and if necessary then double side paper

where possible use public transport over using my car

need to look into plastic bricks for non recyclable plastics

Went vegetarian (still eat fish but only if I catch them myself - rod and line, no by-catch, under sized fish go back unharmed - no catch, no fish for tea)

Recycle as much as we can, including bottle tops, crisp pac kets etc. that have to go to a special collection facility

Buying food without plastic packaging where possible

Grow our own fruit and veg as much as possible

Walking our son to school instead of taking the car

Energy saving bulbs

Compost everything we can

Use eco-friendly shampoo, conditioner and shower gel, buy in bulk

Voted to remain in European Union partly due to the 500+ pieces of legislation concerning air quality, water quality, sustainability etc. that make it probably the most advanced international organisation in terms of environmental policy

I looked at that, and I see they also have a scheme for recycling them to make cosmetic packaging. Either way, a very good idea.

That's SO important, and strangely I think it often improves our quality of life.

What I mean is that I remember the sheer joy of eating the first of the season's strawberries. Before Tesco started flying them in.

You don't get anything like the same pleasure when strawberries are available from the supermarket every day of the year (and especially the out of season ones which tend to look red enough, apart from the give away green and white bit at the top, but taste like cardboard).

Variety is the spice of life and one way of having variety is by seasonal eating.

We are collecting bottle tops for Lush to make playgrounds for war torn countries and we all have solid water bottles that we reuse.Personally I have stopped using sandwich bags for lunch and have bought a glass one that I can use for hot and cold lunches.We have a recycling bin at home & work. Not going to save the planet on my own but ......! I would also like to volunteer for beach plastic collections which I am going to look into this weekend
