Basically at the minute it's whoever happens to be free when they ring us in whatever order that happens to be. It comes up every now and then and I have

RE: On Call Request

For me it would depend on what my contract states & how my hours/salary is stated. If this amount of on call is already in my contract & my pay rate is listed as an annual salary then I would expect that on-call pay is included within that salary. However if I am paid at an hourly rate then I would expect additional payment for on-call. If on-call is not in my contract then I would also be asking for additional payment.

RE: On Call Request

I do on call 1 in 4 except the weekend you are on call as that is a really s***ty week when you get monday ,friday ,saturday ,sunday. We dont get paid to be on call but get double hourly rate if called out. To be honest our vets are really good at not calling you out unless its something big. I used to work for a charity and they used to pay £30 per night for on call + hourly pay (this was 15yrs ago) but you would get called out for really daft stuff like running bloods when the vet and kennel staff had already taken the bloods. Its swings and roundabouts really

If they want you close by, sober and available then they have to pay for that. Grabbing numbers out of the air I'd be wanting £30-50 per night for that. Maybe include 1 OOH check in that and extra pay for more or 1+hours work.
