I debated this for a while and as it turned out I couldn't do the too up without the diploma so I am doing my diploma first then degree. I am slowly loosing my love of being in practice and I know the degree will take me further. Just about to finish first year of my diploma. Having qualified what seems like a lifetime ago getting back into learning was tricky but I have loads of support at home and from the college. I don't know what I'm gonna do with it yet just that I want those Bsc letters. Good luck with your decision.

20k certain is the glass ceiling for earnings that is for sure. I left the profession for a break and have now returned. But by gaining more advanced qualifications we can command higher pay.

I wasnt saying that RVNs should earn that amount! What I was clearly stating out was that I would not put myself through a masters and Advanced practice with mo responsibility for 20k a year if am lucky! Which alot feel the same! It's not worth it!

Most people r 16 when they join the profession like I was as it's a young profession and yes we know its shit money at that time but working with animals outways that as no responsibility at that time etc but when u get into your 30s like me it's a different story and have different priorities then! Which is why most experience nurses leave then at that point!!!

Also I have a degree and makes no difference whether u have a degree or diploma as in career prospects within veterinary nursing but I agree that it does open doors to go into other industries!!

When a human hysterectomy in a private hospital costs ~£5000 and a bitch spay costs ~£200 then you're not going to be paying the nurse £40K+, sorry.

The recent RCVS consultation on this looked promising. If you don't have a degree I'd top up to that as a degree opens more doors if you move away from nursing. I think we are coming to an exciting time for the VN profession, but don't expect big money - lots of vets don't earn that. This is never going to be a high paid profession. You knew this when you joined it.

To be honest I cant see them giving ANP status and level to veterinary nurses if they did it would bring vet nurses to the same level as vets and cant see them giving veterinary nurses that level of autonomy!!

I have just left veterinary nursing and training as a human nurse and I have family that are Adult nurses who have done their advanced practice and they are completely autonomous and work at the same level as doctors and diagnose and prescribe within their scope of practice!!

When we r not even allowed to prescribe flea treatment etc I cant see them having AVNP, its along way from that unfortunately...

Plus ANP with the additional responsibility are paid appropriately for that 42k starting salary I think so would AVNP be paid appropriately!!!!

I would wait. Things are currently under review. There is talk of giving ANP status to veterinary nurses who undertake advanced qualification
