It's taken 3 years, but I've finally come across an owner who's taking the piss

RE: Reporting an Unchipped Dog

Is it fair to state that no-one is policing the law when you yourself are unsure who to report it to? I am sure there are many dog wardens and similar out there that would find that assumption somewhat disappointing.

Client confidentiality and GDPR prevents you doing anything more. To do anything more than that, puts you and the practice in a very difficult position.

If the dog is a stray (or straying) handed in, then immediately (even if it has a dog tag) they are under the responsibility of the local authority and you SHOULD be handing them straight over to the dog warden, in this scenario it is perfectly acceptable to mention the dog has no chip and prompt the dog warden what powers are available to them.

This law has no teeth to it, neither does tail docking, neither does the new dog breeding law. We're all seeing dogs whos owners are contravening these laws and there is bugger all we can do about it, yet no reasonable force out there that can.

RE: Reporting an Unchipped Dog

Call and report it to your local dog warden ( seen reasonable results our end as councils keen to get the fine £ )

RE: Reporting an Unchipped Dog

I feel like I should have suspected that no-one would actually be policing this law once it came in, but that's what I get for being optimistic!!

We've had multiple dogs in recently with out of date details. Honestly I've stopped caring so much? If owners can't be arsed making sure their dogs are traceable, then I'm not going to lose any sleep over it! We're not 24hrs in any case so I've started sending them all straight to the police kennels.

RE: Reporting an Unchipped Dog

I've had a couple not microchipped and I've just advised them they are breaking the law and if the dog warden finds the dog, they'll have a fine to pay, who is policing this, I'm not sure.

Today I've just done a poster for dog owners reminding them it is law to have chip details up to date and still need to wear a collar and tag. Had 2 dogs escape from gardens in past week, with out of date details and no tags and I got fed up

RE: Reporting an Unchipped Dog

From England but we have had a few of unchipped dogs too!!.
