If you qualified and listed before 1 January 2003, there is no need to Register unless you want to. Registration can only be made compulsory if there is a new Veterinary Surgeons Act, which doesn't seem likely in the short term.

What is coming in from autumn 2010 is the disciplinary mechanism for RVNs - ie what happens if a complaint is made. Liz Branscombe, in-coming chairman of the VN Council, is doing a presentation about this at BVNA Congress this year, which may be of interest. We will also be doing various communications over the next year or so about what the disciplinary system entails.

Someone was asking earlier in the thread about RCVS News. Listed and Registered VNs should have had their copies by now, but it's also available online at www.rcvs.org.uk/rcvsnews. The whistle-blowing article is on page 8.

Cheers

I looked on the RCVS website and you can't download the June 2009 edition.
The review of VN qualifications in the RCVS news - hopefully this will be a good thing (?) - at last it would seem that realisation has 'dawned' and that it is acknowledged that the NVQ is impractical for veterinary practice. I look forward to a review - hopefully if it becomes more practice friendly to train nurses then more practices will take part in training = more qualified nursing staff.

Well I live in hope!
