Cats Protection designed the Hide and Sleep which is fantastic. They use them in their re homing centres and they are easy to disinfect and reuse.

these are the ones we have. The cats love them. They have two archways as well as a place on top for cats to sit. We also sit them so that there is only one arch available when a cat is on fluids so they don’t become entangled. We also have a couple in our small furries ward so that the bunnies and g. Pigs have hides too. Very easy to clean and even better are stackable and therefore don’t take up loads of space

RE: Ideas for cat friendly igloos/hiding places

https://www.catsprotectionshop.co.uk/acatalog/Hide---Sleep-81399.html

That way it can be easily lifted to check the animal, no risk of cat swiping person trying to get cat out of the box etc.

I wouldn't cover cage until cat round 100% from an anesthetic, so it can be seen by everyone and not just when specifically checked.

I do worry about general deterioration of cases that may not be noticed if the cat can hide.
