Don't remember that ... and surprised, because I don't think it's a bad idea!

I don't get a huge amount of legislation news each year, and it isn't a topic that lends itself to galleries, so I think for the moment it is best as a forum in the non-clinical section/group. I'll add it now (I'm reviewing the non-clinical forums at the moment).

I know I have asked before and it didn't go down well - but please can we have something on new legislation. I think its more important than ever now but it really doesn't fit into any of the other groups. If it doesn't get used then ditch it but at least give it a chance. ie how many people in practice have been quizzed by dog breeders on this https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukdsi/2018/9780111165485 since it came out - at least if people have the heads up they have a chance to find out about it before they have to answer questions. At risk of being very unpopular there are some subjects that are going to be done to death. Part of the nursing remit these days is that we have to keep up with all the new rules and regs

Maybe you could tie in recalls on the same bit -so that they are all easily seen ie the Hills recall on certain foods so that everything is in the same place

Thanks Alison Clare Hickman - I guess I think at the moment the things you listed really fit under the 'disciplines' - ie Behaviour has its own section, weight is Medical, Diabetes is medical, comms and dealing with difficult clients is non clinical (prob life in practice), geriatrics and puppies again medical. But it is early days, and nothing is set in stone.

Clarification on the consulting nurse. It is a discrete discipline and one that certainly covers aspects such as weight, behaviour, mobility, diabetes, communication skills, dealing with difficult clients, Geriatrics, Puppy and Kitten advice and so on... I regularly see requests on here and FB groups for 'How to' run, set up, advice on how others use their clinics for the various disciplines under the Umbrella of the title 'Consulting Nurse' - not failing to mention the District Veterinary Nurse project...

I do think it has it's own entirely separate interest group... what does everybody else think?????

At this stage, as little as possible! Yes, may add further sub categories in future, but let's see how it goes.

As regards Fluid therapy and Nutritional Management, yes, I see these as part of Medical Nursing, but they are such big subjects that they may become a sub category in future.

Consulting Nurse ... I'm not really sure how that fits within the context of the interest groups and if I am confused, it may confuse others?

In other words, consulting about behaviour. Does it go in consulting or behaviour? Same for all the other disciplines. I'm inclined to think discussions about consults should generally be in the relevant subject area (yes, I know they won't always apply, in which case the discussion would belong in the general catch-all forum).

Fluid therapy (including blood and plasma product transfusions) - unless you would consider these as part of, say, medical nursing?
Nutritional management -again could be part of medical nursing?
Consulting nurse

Not sure how far you want to break the categories down - or perhaps you will be adding sub-categories (with cross-matching(?)) once it gets going?

As for selecting my favourite it would be the Consulting Nurse - heheh

So ... nearly there with the basic structure now. Interest groups are:

Anaesthesia
Behaviour
Dentistry
Dermatology
Diagnostic Imaging
ECC
Medical Nursing
Surgical Nursing
Wound Management
Exotics
Equine

As I build this new structure, you'll see that forums and galleries go by the same names (as they are all within these groups), and from now on, news will be tagged by group too.

Of the above, the discipline groups (eg dentistry) are all for small animals. If you want to discuss a reptile dermatology issue, that should be in the Exotics section. In due course, if there is demand, I'll add discipline groups to exotics or equine.

Any howling omissions? I am wondering about clinical pathology & cytology. Should I add that?

Well, the most important things are:

As I am already seeing on VetSurgeon.org, it provides a point around which people who know the subject can gravitate, which improves the quality of discussion / information shared.
Much easier to find information on a given subject. MUCH MUCH more so than facebook, where although more people talk, it's bloody hard to find anything, and a complete lottery as to who sees what (depends on whats on the timeline at the time you logged in).
Much more professional than on facebook. If i am taking advice or opinion from other people, I want to know their qualifications or experience. You can only see people's profiles on facebook, if they are a friend. Even then, facebook profiles tend not to have much professional info, just that someone has a cat called fudge, two children and a tortoise. Oh, and they like skiing in a silly hat. In any event, I don't like sharing personal info with anyone other than good friends.
You an easily claim time here as CPD and get a VetNurse certificate for your engagement. You could claim time spent on facebook as CPD, sure, but who ever remembers to record it? On here, you just press the red button at the top.

Oh yes, that is on my 'to do' list.

A few ideas in the pipeline with these groups:

1. You will be able to subscribe to a digest of activity in the groups you are interested in. Actually, that should work now and i am not sure why it doesn't.

2. I'll be approaching various expert contributors to participate in the special interest groups.

3. I mentioned earlier, rewards for people who are most helpful to others (as measured by clicks of the THANK YOU link, so do make sure to be liberal with your thanks!)

4. Now that the image galleries are finally starting to take some sort of shape, encouraging experts to submit case studies, and everyone to share demonstrations or explanations of various nursing tasks.
