HI, I am sure I am not alone in saying that I am currently struggling to recruit nurses. I'm hoping that some of you guys may be able to shed some light, offer hints and tips for a successful recruitment?

I suppose it depends where you are in the country but we are very rural so not a lot of qualified VNs to chose from, but we are inundated with diploma and degree students.

If we wanted another nurse I'd take on a student, no question. Can legally do the Schedule 3 stuff too.

RE: Recruitment of VN's

Hi, I have been in both permanent and locum work but primarily locum now and done this for 4 years.

From my experience everywhere are struggling to recruit nurses and worked at some practices where lay staff are doing nursing jobs Inc S3. I have worked where they are trying to recruit for over 12 months with not 1 application.

I was recently interviewing for permanent work but after a few bad experiences in some practices I am now leaving the profession to go back to university and retrain which is a shame as dedicated 16 years of hard work.

Unfortunately more nurses are leaving or turning to locum work for the same reasons we always hear, lack of progression, poor pay and benefits, not feeling valued/rewarded/appreciate, bullying, long unsociable hours, training for years to find unqualifieds doing same job as you or not doing much more then when you was a student, abusive clients, the list goes on...

It's a shame but can't see it changing any time soon so decided to jump ship now while I still can...
