I'm also in a similar position. I'm coming up to 3 years since qualifying, I feel like my career hasn't really taken off and as a result my confidence is almost shattered completely. What happens if I leave the profession but regret leaving? Is it easy to come back?

RE: LEAVING NURSING

I left nursing in 2010 to pursue a career in human radiography. Trained and qualified as an Assistant practitioner. Ceiling salary of around £23k. Couldn’t afford to return to uni full time to gain full radiography degree. After 7.5 years with the NHS I was offered a job at my local vet hospital (where I worked adhock) as an imaging nurse. Now combining my two passions in life. Imaging and veterinary nursing. there are plenty of extended courses and qualifications out there if you wish to specialise and there are more and more practices looking to recruit specialist nurses.

RE: LEAVING NURSING

Hi,

I just wanted to tell you about my friend J, she's never been a rvn but I think her story might inspire you, she had done a degree in zoology and been working in research, married with 2 toddlers, when she decided she wanted to do more and become a human nurse. She graduated yesterday : ) She will say herself its very hard work, doing a full time degree, mother too 2 toddlers and working to keep income coming into the household but its all done now. So I would say don't let anything hold you back, if human nursing is calling you then do it (J was 35 when she returned to uni!)

Goodluck in whatever you decided

RE: LEAVING NURSING

I feel very much the same at time and am also stuck for what to do when I decide to leave! Have you thought about moving jobs? Challenging yourself within the career eg become a clinical coach or go in to referral? Or how about locuming?

so many nurses feel the same - I’ve even thought about shop work waste of my degree and the time I put in but the passion I first has at the start has been chipped away due to unappreciation and demotivating bosses

RE: LEAVING NURSING

Hiya,

My immediate thoughts when reading your post were these 2 questions... What interests you most? What will keep you motivated? Answer these and you have a thread to follow to find a satisfying career path.

Good luck and I hope you get there!

RE: LEAVING NURSING

Hi there

i sympathise with you as these thoughts have crossed my mind many times - I still have my love of nursing but it’s the pay, progression and physicality of the job that concerns me. I have thought of something fitness related, physio, human nurse etc, but would need years worth of retraining, no salary whilst training and when weighing it up for me it’s not really viable.

How about something in pharmacy, teaching, dog walking etc? Sorry I can’t be more helpful
