In my previous practice I was clinical coach to an enthusiastic SVN. I left for a new position 6 months into her training but have stayed in touch. Recently I've become very concerned for her as she is considering

RE: Concerned for SVN

Does a secondment have to be a TP? Would they let you supervise her and sign her off if you are still a CC? Worth asking?

RE: Concerned for SVN

does she have little to do with patients through choice or because she is tied up doing other things. ie has she lost heart or is she just snowed under? Is any aspect of this down to low spirits/depression? Do you have any contact with her current coach at all?

Would the college be able to find her a secondment just to get her tasks completed? This is where the current TP system falls down.

Does the practice she is with want to continue as a TP? - this might be a question the college should be asking of them. Maybe they have lost heart as well re training if the staff they are investing in are all leaving? Are they wondering if she passes her exams she will be the next to jump ship?

Are there any other students at the practice. If there is a high staff turn over in the practice are they too busy concentrating on the newbies and bringing them up to speed.

It sounds like both your ex student and the practice itself have had quite a few changes to contend with. It could well be that a new environment will renew her enthusiasm or then again it may decide her that she really needs to do something else?

its really sad when this sort of thing happens.

Hopefully if you can support her well being or refer her to somebody else if you think that would be beneficial to her and college can support her study she can get through this
