It is blue for identification only. You can buy clear methanol and do the same job.

RE: Disposal

Okay thank you Sal, good to know I'm on the right tracks then and I will use cat litter in future for larger amounts.

Don't know if the following will be of use to you? https://www.ndmrb.ox.ac.uk/_asset/file/rapi-diff-coshh.pdf . I clean when they look like they need it - could be a month or a week or a few days if somebody has tried to stain a fatty fna and its floating on the top like gravy. Chances are somebody will be along soon to tell me I am doing it wrong

RE: Disposal

Hope you don't mind but your question has prompted me to consider our protocol too as I have been given the job of cleaning and topping up the bottles and not sure if what I'm doing is the right/best way.

I was taught to dispose contents monthly down the sink and rinse the pots just using tap water and a tooth brush but it doesn't get rid of the stain/grime that well, especially on the base/bottom as tooth brush only really reaches the sides. I know that spirit gets rid of the stain on surfaces so use that to clean spillages on work top and outside of the pots but wasn't sure if could use it inside the pots in case residue interacts with the stain/results? So...

How often do you clean/change contents of the pots? (Bearing in mind that we are a first opinion general practice with approx 3 vets doing consults a day)

Where do you dispose of contents from the pots after use? (rather than unused expired bottles which the previous posts said into hazardous waste)

What do you use to clean the pots? Both type of brush/liquid used?

Do you have spare set of pots so a set drying and a set in use?

And any other tips on maintaining the pots?

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. Yeah just discovered this recently that I could get single ones thanks for the links though - always good to know other places to compare prices :-)

RE: Disposal
Thanks Jean

We are talking bottles of the stuff :-) We use solution A faster than B and C so have several bottles out of date and needing disposal just trying to work out how and by whom :-)
you do know you can buy A by itself don't you? https://www.vet-direct.com/default.php?sid=VD-4107-5736-9618&sessiontag=prodfullview&data=2171 - you can get it other places too

there is no need to buy a full kit every time. I often buy extra container of A and have never had any of the stains go out of date. This applies to rapidif and difquik. I would imagine it should be safe to dispose of by mixing with woodbase cat litter and leaving somewhere safe and covered outside to evaporate (because its flammable) before putting the whole lot in the doop but it should suggest a safe disposal method on the data sheet that comes with it.

Could always ask at local hospital how they get rid of theirs - they might even dispose of it for you

RE: Disposal

Thanks Jean

It is classed as hazardous waste :)
