I have one who isn't 12 months yet and varies proportion wise between a porpoise and a whale he is deranged about food and is currently fed on his own in the conservatory to stop him gobbling his down and then elbowing everyone else away from their food...he is awful ...if there is no food on offer he will chew a hole in the biscuit bag in the pantry..break into the dog food tub or even resorts to nicking the washing up sponge if it smells of food if there is nothing else...although we aren't sure if the last one is actually ploy to slowly kill off the dog..who inevitably gets hold of the sponge once its on the floor and chews it up ...needless to say his weight and appetite are a work in progress

haha my niamh is 1 now and still tries to eat her brothers lucky hes on a diet (8.5kg on urinary diet impossible) so the little he gets he eats the lot now so she can't steal it. she wont eat her biscuits through the day just at night these also happen to be urinary biscuits because she refuses to eat normal ones!! fussy little madame has me trained!

even where she eats is an issue. We feed her on a book shelf, i think she knows her brother can't get up there so she can leave it and come back to it. she wont eat when we are around either! no idea where this all came from she was fine up untill 5months old!!

strange little cats :)

Loopy Mine are terrible...One is on Sensitivity Control Wet and the rest on indoor cat dry so they are fed in differen't areas of the house..mega pile on to try to prise the kitchen door open so they can all steal poor Spesh's Sens. Control or at least lick the bowl

No no am not totally cruel, she eats it eventually well within 24 hours i just feel guilty because i know she doesnt like it. And worse comes to worse she eats her brothers urinary biscuits :)

I would generally give the same advice as Carolyn..I would normally be concerned about any "healthy" cat that doesn't eat for 24 hours or more. There is always the possibility that someone else is feeding your cat and def one to check out but if this continues or your see finicky eating for a while see your vet to be on the safe side . I would always advise at least worming every 3 months ..more often if your cat is a hunter or you have children but in most cases worms do not cause appetite symptoms such as this ...although you still need to treat for them...would advise Milbemax or Drontal or similar..avoid shop bought products.

Other things to consider generally with feeding cats ;

Don't put food & wtaer sources next to each other - cats do not naturally drink and eat in the same places and they dislike this.

Don't feed cats side by side ( even f they have a good relationship) - this is also unnatural behaviour for cats and they dislike having it enforced upon them even if they do have to tolerate it

Consider forage feeding - using treat balls, hiding food in paper parcels around the house etc., to encourage your cat to burn off some energy and fulfill natural hunting instincts

Hope some of this helps. also worthwhile having a dental check

When my cats are a bit fussy I get some pouches from the quality save/cheap shop. Surprisingly they have so much fish in them! A little treating and they are back to normal :)

i know that feeling, am pretty sure whiskas saucy wont be around forever or the felix vegetable flavour trays she seems to love. Worries me because then we are back to her not eating for days! i try and be stubborn and refuse to give her anything else but she always wins!

one of mine is a picky eater - at first would eat anything, then after a bout of sickness about 4 years ago would only eat Natures Best dry - at this stage would eat the tuna or chicken varieties but nothing else. Now we are down to him eating only chicken flavour Natures Best. If they ever stop producing this food boy are we in trouble!!

My cat licks off all the jelly or gravy and leaves the lumps... unless hes really hungry... but he is 17, so i guess he just got lazy!!

talking of cats that don't eat;

when we first got my kitten at 11 weeks she was great ate anythin we gave her and was an awesome little girl! then whn she was about 5 months she decided she no longer liked whiskas or felix kitten food so after an impossible fight with her over food we came to the deal of tesco in gravy pouches and life went smoothly!! Untill our local tesco stop selling the gravy pouches :O and the battle began to find something she liked. We tried gravy tins and various gravy pouches. She ate Felix in gravy for a while then got bored, luckily shes getting better and nw eat whiskas saucy and a few things in jelly but shes still so fussy!! one day she loves it the next she hates it! but hey what can you do lol! got the opposite problem with my other cat who eats everythin and anything!! :P

gota love cats tho lol!! :P and as long as there happy iam happy haha! :D

:S Yeah I was going to do that, but he always gets himself in trouble, so he isn't collared, he's chipped though, and well known to my vets. He's wolfing his food down now, so I really think he'd just had enough, bless.

I'm having to buy dry as well now though, as my other cat has become fussy and would rather chomp on biccys, oh well I don't mind, as long as their happy :)

hi i thought one of my cats was getting fed by someone else as he disappears for ages, hes the only one of mine that is allowed out. He comes home smelling of someone elses perfume!!! i was going to get a disc made with "please do not feed" on it, then i found a snap safe collar with those words embossed on it at one of the large pet retail stores (not far way from home, that one!) He also sprays but is very clean in the house. There does seem to be a new kid on the block and hes lost a few claws lately so i think hes been defending his teritory! Incidentally he does seems to have slimmed down a bit in the last few weeks

He was nibbling but other than that fine. I bought some different food today which he's happily munched up! So looks like he'd just had enough of jelly whiskas.

How is he in himself? does he feel as though he has lost weight?

I would prob get him checked out by a vet just to be on the safe side as it isn't really safe for cats to go without food for any length of time
