For the last few weeks I wanted to quit my job so badly. For many different reasons: we are constantly short staffed, it is very difficult to book holidays as there is always an excuse (no more than two persons from the

RE: Feeling lost. I am getting a much clearer view :)
I got in touch with an agency about locuming. The lady was lovely and she was recommended by a locum RVN im working with.

Im trying to buy the BSAVA Pocket Book but the website down't allow me to buy it, not sure why...
Is it a good one?
1) you are uncertain about where you work now

and

2) you are uncertain about making a jump into locum work

Have a go at breaking it down into smaller chunks - it helps to get a clearer view.

Your student nurse who feels she is worth more than you are - have come across a few of those in my time, they don't last long - they will probably qualify (some don't wait that long) and then bugger off into teaching and make out to the next generation of students how they are God's gift to vet nursing - pay them no heed. The vets you are working with sound happy with your work and its them that pay the wages and decide what somebody should or shouldn't be getting paid, not a student nurse.

Locum work - you don't need to be super confident, but you do need to know your stuff (or have a pocketbook with doses etc). In saying that there are practices and people working in practices that will walk all over you unless you stand your ground. ie nurses just like the delightful student you have now whose attitude will be - you are getting paid more so you get the crap jobs, but would agree that a locum is a good way of sussing out a practice before you settle down and is also a good way of seeing how different practices work in different ways.

Give me a shout on here if it helps

RE: Feeling lost.
I'm sorry you're having a hard time. If works making you that unhappy then you've got 2 options - arrange a formal meeting with head nurse and management to discuss your concerns or leave.

For locuming I defo wouldn't say that you need to be confident! I wouldn't class myself as outgoing in any way but I've found that when I locummed I got on fine and it actually helped to build my confidence.

Life is too short to be miserable at work and there are tonnes of practices out there desperate for nurses.

Locuming is also a great way to try practices out and quite often you might be offered a permanent job if they are impressed with you.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like x
