I'm still on my old contract , pre-IVC, none of my terms have changed. I still get paid overtime. Our new employees also get paid overtime. The main difference for those of us on the old contracts is our 4 week notice period if we decide to leave, newcomers have 2 months notice written into theirs. I also get paid for working bank holidays, newcomers don't, but get a lieu day.

i found them quite supportive, and lots of assistance from other ivc practice which was good. I left after a while to take a different job. recently found out they have closed the practice i was at!

If it is in your contract to be paid overtime, they will have to honour this. However, they can amend contracts of employment, though they must follow proper procedure to do so. Also, under TUPE regulations, if your employment is transferred to a new employer, they must honour your existing contract (but like above, it is possible to make amendments). Just because your practice has new owners, doesn’t necessarily mean you have new employers.

One practice I know does, the other doesn't. It depends on whether your Management choose to keep old rules or adapt new.

Statement from IVC in Vet Times;

"There is some current speculation IVC is potentially seeking additional funding. Given the phenomenal growth the company is experiencing, this is not particularly surprising and does not imply any change in ownership or strategy. For us this is very much business as usual.

“There is absolutely no change to the underlying business – to the current management team or to the long-term direction of the company.

“We will continue our strong growth, our investment in people, premises and processes in order to provide our stated aim of ‘exceptional veterinary care’.”

do not forget that IVC are currently up for sale so who knows who will buy it and how it may change again.

have heard good and bad things, think it varies depending on how the practice is ran at the time of take over.

I know a few people in IVC practices (they own most of South Wales!) and they are all very happy. No horror stories that I've heard of.

We were taken over by IVC nearly 4 years ago, I was gutted too, but actually we've not had a bad experience. We did need to change a few things - wholesaler, external lab, pet crematorium. It still feels like the same place though, our old boss left (he was the previous owner), and one of own vets stepped up as clinical director.

Nobody has been forced out here, although the CD did have to prove recently that another RVN was needed at the practice and how this would be funded and the CD did get the go ahead. Nobody has been forced to leave.

My old practice was bought by IVC 5 years ago. We were told not to worry and things wouldn't change too much. And they didn't for the 1st year. Then they decided that there was too many nurses and receptionists. A very brutal redundancy procedure followed, which resulted in a receptionist and myself forced out of our jobs. We were a very tight-knit team, more like a family, so was very shocking. And all of us were long term staff members - I had been there 16yrs.

I found a new nursing position within 2 weeks, with a different corporate who seem to value their staff more (and lost a stone in weight through stress).

This is just my experience, and I do know of other practices taken over by IVC, who haven't suffered the same fate (I also know of others who have suffered similar).

But I will always give IVC a wide berth now.
