I am in the process of updating my CV and looking for advice. My current CV is five pages and I feel it is too long. Due to travelling, I have had a few locum jobs that lasted six months as well as my training practice and then longer-term

RE: Updating a CV

Ideally you should try to keep your CV to about 2 pages, which can be difficult if you've moved around lots! I have also done lots of travelling and locuming, so I know where you're coming from. In my CV I've covered "locum work" as one "job" if that makes sense, and then in the description have highlighted some of the types of practices I worked in and key skills I gained through locuming as a whole, such as adaptability to new teams and environments. For my longer term jobs I've focused on the more recent ones and written a bit more about my role in those practices (try not to repeat yourself, focus on one or two things you did or learned in that specific practice), and just a very brief overview of earlier jobs. My training practice and first job are listed but I haven't written anything about them, as they were so long ago I feel its not relevant to go into further detail. You could also have a "key skills" section stating that you are competent in all nursing tasks such as placing IVs, monitoring anaesthesia etc, rather than putting this information next to each job you have listed. Remember that potential employers will ask for more detail at interview if they want it, you're just trying to give them a general overview of what you've done and can do. Good luck!

RE: Updating a CV

If it might help you - I've done a blog (fairly comprehensive, even I say so myself) about creating a good CV... if you tell me your email (PM me if you prefer) I'll send it to you.
