I think up here we've got a bit more of a crisis when it comes to hard-up folk, my town is a haven for ex-drug users and cos we've got a port nearby there's a big immigration problem, so all these people are helped by the homeless project.

Re: Nurses freecycle!!!

having worked for several charities I can confirm that electrical goods are generally not saleable (even if they have been PAT tested) They are often refused or once taken in passed to other charities or disposed of.

Depending on which charity you wish to donate to there is almost always a demand for good clean blankets ,duvets, and other bedding (we almost ran out last year) good clean clothing esp coats esp in the winter - some of the coats that dont quite pass muster for sale somebody will be very grateful for.

There are some charities that will take electrical - best to check before you take the stuff in that the one you are supporting is one of them

Re: Nurses freecycle!!!

My folks were refused their chairs spotless and almost unused and ditto to other folks and electrical are also refused certainly when my folks have tried to donate. Must be the scots thriftiness

Re: Nurses freecycle!!!

Surely then if good stuff was donated to charity shops, it wouldn't get dumped. We have a British Heart Foundation shop in Falkirk, whoc take all electrical items, they are then taken to the local college, where they get a full work up by apprentice electricians and fully tested to make sure they work.

We also have the homeless project which take any item of furniture, no matter its condition, local offenders / community servicers do it up then it is dished out to the folks that need it - battered wives who have been re-housed, ex-offenders who have come out, etc etc.

I'm not saying freecycle doesn't work, I use it myself, but if you've got good quality stuff you don't want, then why not let the charity shop get the benefit??

Re: Nurses freecycle!!!

Fi a lot of what goes to charity is dumped and they wont take many items that are freecycled, some due to size others due to items electrical and what they consider junk. There is also the thing about getting it to the charity whereas freecycle it is collected. Some charitys do collect but again you have to go and ring them and then find they wont take half the stuff. Also with freecycle people sign up to it l belong to 3 and so you are getting info direct into the house but with a shop you have to go into it.

Anyway here goes.... just for fun.....

2 boxes of stuff for a carboot including leaky kettle and some oddments of kitchen stuff

Box of novels.

Pair of swim blowup armbands for upto aged 5

Box of bottles of awful tasting wine (given as a present but is the pits!) Don't think you can sell alcohol on Freecycle...

A huge cafe perculator/capuccino / filter coffee machine that has only been used onec and that I actually won at BVNA congress 3 years ago....it is quite smart, just very big and only came out once when I had people round.

A step exercise machine that I have used a bit but got bored and very unmotivated with it

Is that enough for starters... there is plenty more on offer.........................
