I’m starting to feel like it’s a hopeless dream trying to keep them infection-free in a vet practice

RE: How Do You Manage Your Own Wounds?

Personally I use Honey on any deep scratches and a natural yogurt poultice on any cat bites. Everyone laughs at me and scoffs at the basic remedies but they not laughing when I don't get all infected and heal up a treat :)

RE: How Do You Manage Your Own Wounds?
How anonymous am I on here?

Honest answer is wash in hibi, dry and a smear of whatever steroid/antibiotic cream we have open......
As somebody who is constantly stocking our first aid box with plasters (same person who seems to need a whole box for the tiniest scratch) I appreciate your honesty . Same with me - cleaned with hibi +/- a smear of whatever depending on how it looks. I only apply a dressing if its dripping blood and I don't want to make a mess or it looks like it might need stitches or it might come into contact with something orrible and I cant cover it with a glove. Will emphasise this is how I treat myself not anybody else.

Anybody writing them in the accident book? because if it needs a dressing it surely needs the accident book. Our accident books ran to 'volumes' when I worked at BX as absolutely everything went in there - though I did draw the line at flea bites when I was asked to enter that on one occasion!

RE: How Do You Manage Your Own Wounds?

If you do get really badly scratched and after bathing with hibi it still looks bad - go to GP. Most have a Nurse Practioner that can prescribe. I recently had a cat scratch that after days of bathing and putting cream on began to deteriorate. I was prescribed antibiotics. Oh and make sure you cover it if its open when doing dentals to protect it.

RE: How Do You Manage Your Own Wounds?

How anonymous am I on here?
