I’ve been a VCA for over a year now, and I’m dying to start my VN training, but my current practice won’t be sending me any time soon (we’re talking years)...
So I’m looking around for Trainee

RE: ARE THERE ANY JOBS?!?!

I live in Maidstone, Kent.
The fact you are already working in practice is very good re progress to SVN ..it's a shame you're existing one cannot offer you this at minute . However you need to get proactive and ask the colledge and contact all practices .. over and over ..there is a new course starting Sept with CAW it's a voluntary nvq where you self fund your training. Not sure where you are based? This could be a bonus if you were offered a place. You can apply then sort a placement out. They have a team to help with this. Sept, Jan and April are the start dates. Def be prepared to move practices if you cannot train where you are. Keep learning where you are it's all good experience . I don't think entry into SVN training has ever been easy and not allot has changed in 10 yrs ..I am still trying too. Don't give up. The other option is the degree route but if that's not for you then persevere re nvq ..has you're practice said they will train you In the future .? Have they explained why they cannot offer you this now ? If there are others in front of you training or waiting to then you may just have to sit tight. I can understand your frustration and you obviously have career ambitions that you want to achieve . You may want to have a meeting with you're head nurse about how you are feeling. Just so they are aware .

Alas there is a shortage of TPs nationally. Colleges are working with non TPs who wish to become one.

And then I get people who tell me they will get their college to contact me and make us into a training practice and sort out a placement for them - again sorry but it doesn't work that way. I know its tough but it has always been this way it hasn't really changed. I was in practice 10yrs before I qualified - don't look on it as wasted time but as time well spent perfecting skills before you move up the ladder . Stick at it , be prepared to move around and keep looking and eventually something will come up.

RE: ARE THERE ANY JOBS?!?!

Unfortunately most practice will recruit internally for SVN positions. Also many students are now self funding, either through the degree route or via the diploma and taking an unpaid placement in practice sourced by their college.

dont be up keep searching. Are there othef people ahead of you in the pecking order so to speak? Do you have yearly reviews with your line manager? Can you discuss training with them then
