Basically, I love seeing nurses learn. I enjoy talking through the theory side of anaesthesia, lab, medical conditions etc and have an abundance of journals and my own notes to

RE: Is there such a thing as....

Assuming you are in a practice with at least 1 clinical coach and at least 1 SVN then the existing clinical coach is the one I'd speak to. See if there are some aspects of the training you can help with and see how that goes? Realistically you can do 75% of the clinical coach job without being one. If it's something you enjoy and works well then maybe speak to management and ask if you can formalise the process and take on your own student?

A word of warning - how many clinical coaches and how many SVNs? Just make sure you're not treading on anyone's toes by doing this. The existing clinical coaches may love that aspect of the job and be very protective of it. They might like the time with the students away from other tasks. There is no point having many clinical coaches and 1 SVN , but equally having a lack of nurses and a queue of of potential students due to a lack of clinical coaches is no good either.....

RE: Is there such a thing as....

This is really what the student should be learning at college. CC's should be able to support the student with theory in practice, but they should be passing on the practical elements too (the CC has to show the student how to do a task before the student carries it out to claim competency).

You may find though that you are better with the practical aspects than you think, especially as I/Vs, blood samples etc are all day to day duties generally! However if you do feel happier with the theoretical side, I'm sure the SVN/s would find additional revision sessions a great help coming up towards exams
