They've just announced a big price increase and I keep watching all the other ISP's with much cheaper rates so I plan to move.

Had a call from BT today : they offer a free homehub (apparently the new one that allows you to be 300ft away from it and it will still work, and also through walls!), free BT openworld so I can use the laptop anywhere for 250 mins a month (ok not a lot and when I start my new jo in Norfolk I hope to use the landlady's hub but it might prove occasionally useful), a shadow facility where they can monitor/convert my original email address - it's a special one for our chinchilla breeding/showing hobby and so many people know it/it's on our business cards, and would be a pain to change. Usual 5 email addresses, fixed contract for 12 months all at £12.99 a month, then review contract and can switch to another supplier.

Our village is so far from the exchange that we can only get 2MB (it's been tested by two suppliers and that figure is correct, so all the hype for supplying up to 8MB at various prices doesn't wash with me, as I can only get slow broadband whoever I was with).

My husband heard though of someone who had loads of problems with a homehub and it wouldn't work through walls (or at least walls with electrical conduits in) and our house is an ex-police station and riddled with cabling of all sorts.

Is this a good deal?
we're with Sky for TV but their cheap broadband offer isn't covered by our area so they want about £18 a month as they don't rent the broadband width yet to our village.

Re: Who is your ISP?

oh I really dont know what to do now, so confused, will have to think long and hard about it

Re: Who is your ISP?

Paula's original Q we have virgin media and that is fine. But just so you do understand what l am talking about she used to be fine getting on it is only in the last couple of years that things have been appalling. To the last few months when it is almost impossible to get on. When this bloody wireless contract is done she is changing. she refuses to change but spends the time moaning about it and asking who else there is as a supplier.
As soon as l suggest anything she doesn't want to change then 2 mins later is complaining l will start the process of suggestions for better isp nearer the time. come hell or high water aohell has defo lost another customer.

It wont be virgin as she refuses to have a cable placed so will have to look at other options am not sure about bt have not heard great stuff about them and know 2 people who downloaded updates that put almighty infections in their computers one had bt buy him a new computer and he got a fair bit of compesation. But that was a few years back also bt do not do unlimited use virgin do. not sure about the others.

Another consideration is what sort of back up is there.
