Thankfully we have the consent form on file, so can be printed pre loaded with the clients details. We then have to write on the form who the information is allowed to be sent to (we do put 'any' in the headings such as what vet, what lab etc, meaning we can use the same consent over and over again). Having a standard pre filled form on the computer system does help a little, as you can email it to the client to sign and send back to you - therefore negating the need for them to attend the surgery to sign it. The stupid thing is though that GDPR rules do not apply to the animal or any clinical treatment details - only client personal details are covered, therefore histories could be sent to ANYONE so long as the clients personal details are not on them - just patient name, breed, age etc etc!

RE: Data protection

Anybody else or is it just me struggling to get clinical history from other practices now? One of our nearest practices is asking that the client contacts them in writing before they will send on histories to another practice - the problem comes when the client in question is using not two practices but four, and then moans like hell when we haven't got a clue what may or may not have been done and where. It would seem that permission to transfer history although given is needed to be repeated after each visit?

Bar one request for history from one of the other practices nobody has asked us for any history - or perhaps they have just given up trying to keep track on where the client has been since they last saw them, but it is getting a lot harder to keep histories up to date on our nomadic clients

RE: Data protection
I wrote a personal reference for a former colleague who was using them.
GDPR is a big pain in the ar*e but it has been quite illuminating to me just how far my personal details have travelled - I'm unsubscribing from loads of things and I am finding it VERY satisfying to do so.
Yes! Recruitment agencies I never passed my own details on to (even at Congress), ones I've never heard of, and one I can't unsubscribe from, because I never subscribed, I wrote a personal reference for a former colleague who was using them.

RE: Data protection

nope still a full inbox, especially bloody recruitment agencies! that don't seem to offer an opt out or unsubscribe link!

RE: Data protection

so has the amount of scam/spam altered on a professional or personal level since GDPR went live?
something else I thought of last night - if you have a debtor that has had no contact with the practice since they incurred the debt let alone signed a GDPR - does this mean that you can no longer send them bills or pass their details on for debt collection? - if so I can think a lot of people up and down the country will get away with not paying bills (not just vet practice)
I'm not 100% sure, but my understanding of GDPR is that if you already have an agreed relationship ie client has provided contacts for the purposes of your business then they have consented to you using their details for this purpose. If they owe money for services provided then you should be able to contact them about it & pass on details to a collection agency as long as you have agreement from them not to breach the privacy of that information. Most companies such as ourselves are basically going way overboard as a precaution as we don't want to take the risk of being fined for breaching these new laws!

RE: Data protection

something else I thought of last night - if you have a debtor that has had no contact with the practice since they incurred the debt let alone signed a GDPR - does this mean that you can no longer send them bills or pass their details on for debt collection? - if so I can think a lot of people up and down the country will get away with not paying bills (not just vet practice)

RE: Data protection

bit off topic but has anybody else been plagued (and I am not exaggerating) for the last few days with spam?
