Completion of each section gives you postnominals APVN (subject area) eg, APVN (Avian). If you complete more than one section then these would be abbreviated eg APVN (AW) for avian and wildlife. If you complete the 4 sections (avian, reptile/amphib, small mammal and wildlife) then you would get APVN(AHMW) DipVNZS.
The letter H in the postnominals stands for herpetology!

I did the old course which encompassed everything apart from Zoo animals. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and would definitely recommend it to anyone with an interest in exotics. I think the new set up fits better as you're not trying to learn everything from all the different species for an exam any more.

I plan on doing the Zoo part as soon as I have any spare funds

I haven't done this course, but Mary was one of my lecturers at uni and she was the loveliest, most helpful lecturer ever so I'd be surprised if that had changed int eh last 3 years!

Em has pretty much explained the format of the course. I'm doing it at present, started the old format but converted to the new format. You get 2 years to complete each module. Have to admit motivation can be a problem especially working full-time, I think I learn better on face-to-face courses. Mary and Simon are very supportive if you have an issues you can email them or there are discussions forums.

The new format is great as if your practice only sees small furries and birds, you dont have to do the reptile section.

I'm just starting the zoo module.

This course was previously the City and guilds exotic nursing course and has recently been adapted to be the advanced course.. It now has the different sections split up so you can do just avian for example. Each section has 50 hours of CPD. Each has questions which are submitted online and rather than the old exam which encompassed all sections, there is now an essay which is based on a scenario, again submitted online. No exam now and resources i find to be really good . I'm currently doing the course and enjoying it.
