I had lost my 'buzz' a while back & did the ISFM Cert in Feline Nursing. It gave me the buzz back & now we are Silver accredited, I am a cat advocate for the clinic & I am now enjoying my job. I have been nursing for 30 years.

RE: Lost My Buzz
Just wondered if anyone had any ideas or have been through the same situation as me?
I think that the majority of RVN's go through a period of loosing their 'Buzz' as you put it. I have been nursing since i was 13 years old and am now in my late forties, and have on many occasions felt the same. Can you pinpoint what it is about nursing that you have lost your interest in? This is always a good place to start. Is it because you feel under utilised and not respected within the industry? This again seems to be a big reason why a lot of good experienced nurses are leaving the profession. I was made redundant about 8 years ago because i wasnt qualified - and i was in a senior nursing position, doing the job of a qualified. This made me re evaluate what i wanted to do with my future career. I took a year out (was due to illness as well as redundancy) and decided that maybe i would try something different. I applied for a job in pet insurance, and was offered the position (salary offered was more than a RVN), but after a visit to the office, i decided that a job behind a desk just wasn't for me. That day i made the very hard decision of taking a massive pay cut to train and get my diploma. My reasoning at that time was that although i didnt feel as though i needed that 'piece of paper', i actually did, so that i could continue doing what for me was always a vocation. It took a year of thinking and planning, but i eventually did it and gained my diploma. I still have times when i wonder what else i could do, but think i will always be a RVN until i retire - probably at the age of 75 or older lol.

Try to think about what is actually giving you these feelings and then you can try to work around them or tackle them. I hope you find your 'buzz' again, as it would be a shame to loose another nurse. We need as many as we can get these days!
