i dropped from pet plan as two dogs were going to cost me over £100 never claimed. Now with more than for less than £40 a month

Yup, just cancelled my dog insurance as they wanted over £50/month, I have never claimed for anything in the 10 yrs of her life...outrageous money making business . I have switched to an accident/injury only policy which includes third party liability and will only cost £4.75/ month ! If I ever get another dog I will be putting a sum aside into an ISA every month as an emergency fund to cover vets bills.

the way things are going I can see we will end up back where we were only a decade or so ago where the insured animals were in the minority

Had this happen a good few times recently, lots of insurance companies putting premiums up to £50+ a month for dogs which haven't been big claimers. Doesn't seem to be connected to age here?

I did just that a couple of years ago. My dog was around 10/11 and had the same insurance since a pup. Never claimed and the monthly amount went sky high. Cancelled it, then sods law a large lump suddenly appeared two weeks after. She's nearly 13 now and had three lump removals (grade 1 sarcomas) but doing great.

Yes, in answer to your question - my friend has just cancelled her pet insurance for the same (insane) reason. Never. Ever. Has she claimed in 8 years but the minute her pooch turned 8 the premium rocketed...
