Has anyone been in a similar situation before? How did you cope?

It really is soul destroying.
yep - in most places I have ever worked. Ride it out a bit, it will come right and the good days should soon start to outweigh the not so good. Its as much the practice getting used to having you around as it is you getting used to maybe doing things a bit different. Its difficult starting anywhere new, not wanting to tread on anybody elses toes, wanting to fit in, maybe taking on more of the crap jobs to let them know you aren't averse to doing them - but don't make the mistake I made with the practice I work in now and let that go on too long or some of the pre existing staff may develop the habit of using you as the door mat.

Give it a bit longer and ease yourself in

Seemingly I should not have done that - if help had been needed it would have been asked for. It was unprofessional of me to do that.
I disagree, I believe you handle that perfectly. You did exactly as I would have done - it can be hard to leave a room to get help at times. It's simply teamwork.
I am dreading going back in to work and my nerves are in shreds.

A week is too soon to make up your mind. My advice would be to 'fake it until you make it'. Get in on Monday morning thinking you are going to be the best nurse in the country. Next week will be your week. If there's time get to know people and ask questions about how things are done. Ask how they'd like different situations handling. Don't make yourself too busy doing your own thing - this is the stage where you need to shadow, ask an learn how the practice works. Talk about your ambition for nurse clinics if appropriate. Try and forget about last week.

I hope it works out for you

RE: New job not working out.

Has anyone been in a similar situation before? I would put this week down to a learning experience and start fresh next week. Please remember we all been in the same boat at same point. You won't always get on with everyone, as long yours polite to all members of staff their should'nt be a problem.

I have bad weeks where everything go wrong but remember we are human. All veterinary practices are run different.
