Did anyone see the t-shirts worn by Vetplus at BSAVA Congress this weekend? They had the dictionary definition of INDEPENDENT printed on the back of their t-shirts.

I think this has been going on for quite some time on the quiet. It was certainly going on in the early 90's when the practice I was working in was taken over by a corporate and I know there are suppliers that are not welcome over our doorstep now because of what we see as sharp practice. (we are non corporate).

I don't see that IVC not wanting Vetplus products in their practices will unduly affect the pet owning public seeing as Vetplus supply the online pharmacies and we all know how loyal the pet owning public are to their vets in that respect, so I don't think that IVC are denying their clients choice. Vet plus products are not vet exclusives. They sell to whoever wants to buy, and in the case of the pharmacies Vetplus knows that will result in undercutting the vet practices because the pharmacies just don't have the same overheads.

I think this is a severe case of sour grapes but you are right I think there will be a big backlash from this for both sides, and will probably drag in a few more people along the way. Personally I see this as a warning shot to both sides - will be watching with interest and popcorn
