We are only nobbling clients when they come in at the moment. One headache at a time!

We are destroying our old, paper filing system which we were waiting to time out so we could get rid of it all in one go but unfortunately has some rogue lab reports and things in we need to hang onto.

Getting ID from someone before they can change their details is going to be fun, we have several clients with no passports, bank accounts or driving licences. That request is going to go down like a lead balloon!

What is flummoxing us, is a) do we need written consent from a client before sending their history to another practice if they move vets?

b) we get accounts paid for by other people, not just partners but friends, family etc. who may come in and offer to pay, or they ring up and pay over the phone. Are we allowed to tell them the balance? Someone rings up and says Miss Smith's bill for Tiddles is about £70, I'm going to settle the account, am I allowed to say it's £72.23?

[/quote]

a) our understanding is that you do but would be very happy if somebody told me otherwise. b) not sure at all

I also have the problem where we have quite a lot of really elderly clients who have never been seen and the dog cat or other is brought in by family or friends - how do you get written consent from a very elderly owner of an equally elderly budgie who struggles to understand what day it is.
