I have recently found out I am pregnant with my second baby. First time round I was in a permanent position, whereas now i’m doing a bit of locuming.
Is it possible to continue? What would be the best way of going about it: letting the agencies

RE: Pregnant locum?

Haha, no problem!

So I was asked to work a weekend by a lovely practice i’ve worked in before, I messaged back to confirm the dates, to which they replied. Then I let them know I was pregnant and...nothing!

Just a courteous message back would have done!

I suspect getting work may become difficult!

Given that they don't exactly have a direct relationship with the practices then they're unlikely to "spill the beans" (although I totally agree with Alison as usual and think it's wise to disclose immediately to any practice you're working for).

RE: Pregnant locum?

Thanks both, very helpful.

Im also doing the odd bit of locuming after having had a baby, and planning baby number 2. I'm quite strict with what I won't do when pregnant (it isn't much, but things like gassing down, masked anaesthetics etc) so I'll let my agent know straight away and tell him what I want to avoid, he can then pass that on the practice and they can decide if they still want me.

My umbrella company does pay maternity. A quick look at HMRC website makes me think I won't be elibible for statutory pay as I just don't work frequently enough or earn the minimum every week but maybe I'll be able to claim maternity allowance.

Good luck:) xx

RE: Pregnant locum?

You’re probably right Alison, although I still was happy to carry out most tasks when preggers before, just being extra vigilant with ”all that jazz”!
