just wondering if any of you could shed some light on a decent insurance company that will cover Locum nurses? Not vds though as they seem rather expensive?
many thanks

RE: Locum insurance recomendation please

Previous info regarding VDS insurance etc on these links

Hi, so long as the practice has space on their policy they can name the locum(s). A simple phone call or email to VDS and it's done.

The thing to do before starting work as a locum is to ask the practice to do this and get written confirmation from them that they have done so.

Clearly not all practices will do this, or have capacity to, so having your own VDS insurance is better. Nevertheless, I agree that for just one short period of work, being added to their policy is the most financially prudent idea.

I also agree that not pro rating VDS costs is puzzling, or rolling the 12 months from date of inception. Every other insurance does this, doesn't it??

VDS is what £50 a year? That's a bargain for what you get.

I even paid it up for 2 months because it's vital. I have Union insurance too but wouldn't trust that compared to VDS.

If you can't afford £50 annually for potentially saving your career/registration and meaning you don't have to shell out thousands in court fees, Then I would stop locuming if I was you!
