I'm a locum veterinary nurse but I work out of hours for one specific company. The problem is I can't afford to not work but I don't want to tell anyone about the pregnancy until I'm 100% sure everything

RE: Locuming and Pregnancy

Hello and many congratulations on your wonderful news! Now then, as you are self employed you are eligible for Maternity Allowance, not Maternity Pay which is for employed status only.

See https://www.gov.uk/maternity-allowance

As far as reporting your pregnancy, I totally understand your reticence to do so but you really must do for safety and health reasons for both you and your baby; e.g. Anaesthetics, radiography, handling of medicines/drugs... Your hirer has certain responsibilities to you to protect you both from hazards.

Length of service as self employed for one hirer (employer) before you are considered employed status (and eligible for employed status benefits)? Not sure this specifically exists anymore... The laws are rather confusing. Am still checking! Will revert if I find anything interesting.
