The scenario is: I work in a first opinion practice and for the last few months we are being not so busy. We have 3 practices where 2 of them are sole charge positions

RE: Need advice...Am I being difficult?

hi,

you say you were asked (as opposed to told) to do the 15 mins earlier and later start? Did this 'ask' give you the option of discussing it, to consider your views before it was implemented?

are you being paid for the additional 30 minutes each day?

Do you think the additional 15 minutes at the start and end contribute anything to your/the practice work efficiency? if not, why not and can you suggest a better alternative?

Do other staff members on sole charge take a one hour lunch break? If they do, how is it managed?

Have you asked the vet to cover your lunch break ever? What was the response?

if you are working your lunch break, or part of it, you are surely entitled to overtime or time off in lieu. How do you claim for either of these?

With some more information from you I could offer better advice!

Hope to hear from you soon!

RE: Need advice...Am I being difficult?

Hi Sarah

Thank you very much for your reply! For me to be able to leave the practice the vet needs to agree to cover reception.
What do you think about the shift changes and covers?

If you are able to walk away from the practice, go and eat your lunch in a staff room, then the 1 hour from lunch is acceptable. If there is no one else to cover then you shouldn't get the hour deducted. That's my view anyway.
