Hi how did it all go ? I too worked in practice some years ago and for various reasons had to take a break . I have found local practices open to work experience . It's really good to go back into a practice get to know the people and how they all work together. Yiu can also demonstrate your abilit to them. Sometimes it's about being in the right place at the right time . You never know through work experience you may make impression and this could prompt them to re think their staffing needs or consider you for any future positions ..having met and already worked with you.

All done. Was in there for an hour in the end.

Was interesting to talk to them and in the end didn't need to ask any of the questions I had as they were covered in just general conversation.

Even though the post was advertised for RVN they said they prefer to train their own. They said they like to take people with something different about themselves and a unique specialty. And we asking loads about my behaviour stuff. And when I asked about puppy parties they said that they do run them but it would be better if they had someone qualified.

So they said they'd get back to me within 10 days and that they always get people to come in on a day experience to meet everyone and see how the practice works.

Sounded good to me... But who knows.

I LOVE THIS WEBSITE!! I have printed off every guideline they have and made a little booklet of guidelines! Now going to read and make notes!

Hiya,

It was in my cover letter that in my previous vets i set up and ran puppy parties. And also did full behaviour consults as a qualified behaviourist. My practice actually took behaviour referrals from this vets.

Its just a regular small animal practice but my biggest interest is wound management and surgery. As my own briard is a medical mystery dog and has 3 times now had wounds that don't heal in regular time frames and have no known reason for appearing.

I actually did loads of reading on the wound management post from July and made 3 pages of notes because it was so interesting.

I will definitely looking at the bella moss foundation page. :) Thank you so much for the help. :)

Hi,

Ask about things like puppy classes and assisting with these - they'll love that. Also you'd be keen to help out with doing the client notice boards in the waiting room for annual event updates, such as Easter related warnings (chocolate) or Rabbit Welfare Week... if they already have one, great, you can contribute if they need an extra pair of hands, if they don't you can set it up (with advice/approval from a VS or RVN as needed).

I'd steer away from mentioning targets and brush up on the common parasites of dogs, cats and rabbits e.g. fleas, tapeworms, roundworms, lung worm... and ask what products the practice uses for prevention/cure.

Do you have a particular interest in a pet or one particular species? e.g. a dog lover/owner, a cat lover/owner or a ferret, snake or chipmunk lover/owner?! You can talk about them - in a "this is what I do to care for 'X'" way or the research done on that species, and why you love them so much.

Depends really on the practice interest as to what you'll get asked tbh, however as a nurse of any kind you should be keenly interested in asepsis/cleanliness. Perhaps mention that you have been reading up on this (Bella Moss Foundation)... e.g. hand washing

Ok. Yeah. I'm have been doing some reading any way in preparation for finding a practice and hence starting my training.

I'm generally good with interviews (I can chat like no bodies business) but I always pull a blank when I get asked if I have any questions. What should I be asking?

From working with V4P a few years ago I remember having sales targets for the HCP and the V4L. So could ask about them?

What else?

Oh as an interview, definitely. A casual chat in a bar I perceived was actually an interview ended up with a fabulous job for me. Always present best face, best bib and tucker and be yourself without the gnarly bits!

Hellooooo,

So 2 vets4pets are hiring for RVNs in Liverpool so I emailed them both personally as I used to work for a vets4pets. Saying hi, explaining the situation, asking if they would take an SVN instead, name dropped my old head vet who is a bit of legend around here, and explained the training that I have received.

One of them has emailed me asking me to come for a 'chat' on Monday evening... Should I address this as an interview or be more casual?

Ensure that then will support you through the rest of your training and that you'll be able to rotaye through the different disciplines to allow you to complete your training and that you'll be assigned a CC.

Hello,

They know that I have enquired about jobs as I need a position to complete my training.

So I'm hoping this means that their intention would be to train me although if I hear back from my latest email I will clarify that that is what will happen. As I don't want to end up in the same situation as last time I tried to do training.

What sort of questions should I be asking going in to this? They do have quite a few student nurses in from looking through their staff lists. I think though they are on block release programs where I will be doing day release to college.

It all depends what they are going to expect of you in this role. Are they going to expect you to lone work or will they actually be putting you through your training and buddying you up with a CC. It's a lot of responsibility for an SVN. you need clarification on your exact role within the hospital. and if it's solely a theatre nurse job there are other areas of practice you will have to cover as part of you training.

So I got a call from referral hospital that is a tp and they said they had a position as a theatre nurse, but that it might be too advanced.

Have emailed them and said I have experience in monitoring anaesthetic, have been taugt to place and IV (and had quite a bit of experience at it), can intubate, and take bloods. And have done recovery and stuff...

What else is involved in that sort of role? Is it too big of a role for a trainee?

Thats great, have emailed those practices my cv and a letter stating that I knownthey are looking for RVNs but would hey consider a full time SVN instead and then listed my experience.

By the end of this all the vets in liverpool will be sick to death of me.
