Has anyone undertaken it and what are your thoughts?

Hi,

I am going back after qualifying 6years ago to do the BSc top up and it is so hard to get back into the swing of things. I think the way that our profession is going the more qualifications you have the opportunities you have especially if you do not see yourself in practice in the long term.

Hope this helps

I was thinking of doing the top-up degree too, I was wondering did you get funding for this? And if so what was the criteria you had to meet? Thanks

RE: BSc (Hons) to do or not to do?

I did the BSc (Hons) degree to qualify as a nurse.

I definitely do not regret doing it! Though it was hard work, it opened up many opportunities for me particularly when I was a newly qualified RVN. During my BSc I did the advanced diploma medicine module, in which I did a couple of 'taster' days at a large referral centre. Fortunately they were somewhat short of staff in the department I was visiting and I said I could cover shifts for them part time - and ended up doing so for 6 months until I found a permanent job there but in a different department! I also ended up presenting my BSc project at BVNA congress last year and won a prize for it!

But each to their own, one of my RVN friends did the FdSc and did not want to top up to BSc, as she wanted to get into nursing ASAP! She has also ended up working in a large referral centre.

Hope this helps, feel free to message me any questions!

RE: BSc (Hons) to do or not to do?

It all depends what you want to do after qualifyin. So you want to go on and study further qualifications. If so then a degree is a good choice as it gets you into the mindset of study and enables easy access to postgraduate courses. And if you want to go into more and more institutes are asking for perspective teachers to have a degree in veterinary nursing. Hope this helps some what.

RE: BSc (Hons) to do or not to do?

Hi,
