I get allocated one admin day per week to either train my student or go through her NPL. I make sure all the nursing team are involved in the training so it's not such a burden on me. I find it quite nice as I'm teaching everything we do on a daily basis so it's second nature. I also set my student targets to get particular tasks done within a time frame which works well on the motivation side of things. Hope this helps.

RE: Clinical coaching

For the college that we coach for the Clinical Coach training is just one day long and you have to attend a couple of standardisation meetings a year at the college. It does help if you were trained on the online NPL but its easy to get the hang of. I tend to do a fair bit of the work on the NPL for my student at home but it depends how much time you have at work to do it.

You do of course need time at work to demonstrate skills to your student but any vets or RVN (qualified for over a year) can demonstrate skills and just inform you so that you can open them on the log. I try to have a review with my student every couple of weeks.
