Do you do a practice management style website? :D

RE: Do you do other sites for other veterinary professionals?
Hmm, Arlo, when I put my email address on my profile I got absolutely bombarded by recruitment agencies, (tbh, mainly one in particular - Seven Vets) - so I removed my email address.
Well, at the moment you can do what you did (ie add your email address to the 'about you' section), and I did think about changing that so that you can tick a box and your email address is displayed prominently. I decided against that for precisely the reason you say! One of the benefits of the messaging system on VN/VS is that it allows you to receive messages WITHOUT revealing your email address.

There are a number of recruitment agencies who have historical memberships, and I don't think it would be fair to summarily remove them all - some do behave properly! But certainly anyone who has been bothered by repeated 'spammy' approaches and agencies who won't take no for an answer MUST tell me and I will delete the account.

RE: Do you do other sites for other veterinary professionals?

Hmm, Arlo, when I put my email address on my profile I got absolutely bombarded by recruitment agencies, (tbh, mainly one in particular - Seven Vets) - so I removed my email address. I felt like I had a stalker!

Guess it was my fault as I had expressed a 'if you want to get in touch' style note however I wasn't expecting an avalanche of, frankly, 'in your face' approaches who wouldn't take No for an answer (despite several emails, as fast as I blocked one email I then got another from a slightly different source of the same flipping company). It did eventually stop, (and I mean eeeeevvvenntuuualllly), as I just junked everything I got. However, lesson learned.

I know you know our concerns re this - I know you'll be good to us and protect us - but I for one am a teensy bit a-feared this could happen again. I really have more to do than spend my life battling with sharks. Though a real shark would probably be more polite... haha.

I'm not that cracked about Linkedin either! Find it a bit dull. But I think profiles are done well there.

Anyway, sure, you'll be able to just keep what you already have. We're just making it so people can add more - for example if they're a locum and want potential employers to see a smartly presented list of experience and additional qualifications.

RE: Do you do other sites for other veterinary professionals?

will there be the option to just keep it basic if you want to I hate Linkedin

RE: Do you do other sites for other veterinary professionals?

GO ARLO, GO ARLO, GO ARLO!!!! At the moment, we only have very basic profiles on VetNurse. Very soon, we're upgrading to a much more sophisticated version which offers the kind of profile you can have on Linkedin, but tailored for the veterinary profession.

So, you'll be able to display where you qualified, your work experience, additional qualifications and professional interests.

I developed it primarily for locums and jobseekers to be able to showcase their talents in a much more professional way, but have lots of ideas as to how we can use this to connect people with common interests in a given area.

Back shortly

In my experience, and conversations with others in the field, veterinary practice management is generally not great. For example our practice got scared off by a bad practice manager and so our Directors currently try to manage the business at the same time as being full time vets! They have recognised the need and are working on it (me being put in place for one!) but I'm sure it's a role that would love a website or a section of one for help and guidance.

Thanks again for your help.

RE: Do you do other sites for other veterinary professionals?

Hi Sue Cox Thanks for kind comment about the site

Good question - currently there is a practice management forum on VetSurgeon.org, but it's not especially busy because it's part of the main site, which is hugely dominated by VSs, not practice managers. I think what we need is to give practice managers their own special section which is accessible whether you login via vetnurse or vetsurgeon. I'll have a talk with the techies and see what's possible.
